Poly Choke Question

Has anyone ever seen one on a cooey
I didnot think back in the day they could be fitted on cooey barrels due to the thickness was not there

That comes as no surprise. They are yesteryears technology. I hadn’t heard of anyone installing once since back in the early 70’s. I had something similar years back on my first A-5. It was made by Herters. I never cared for it. It was nothing but a big blob of steel at the end of the sighting plane.

I agree on that with you. It takes away the muzzle jump significantly. You can see it from behind the gun easily when shooting doubles on station 7 skeet. The muzzle on the XS I shot didn’t rise up to meet the incoming high house bird like my unported 101 does.

Then again, the XS has a more weight forward balance. I was able to shoot an unported 725, and compare it to my ported 725 with the same length barrel, and while the ported gun may have reduced muzzle lift slightly , the major difference was the loudness.

FYI There was a pile of different sleeves for 12ga back in the day and they have to match the barrel tolerances
With out the right sleeve to be soldered in the choke portion is useless. I have a bunch of them here but no sleeves to fit common shotguns like ithaca or 870

That's good info. I have a couple lines on used ones, but wondered about different bbl ODs.


That Ithaca M37 bbl is about .830" at where it would meet the choke.

I wish I could find the paper on installation it tells you how much to bore each barrel for each insert
Maybe the internet may have it I will look

All the Poly Chokes I have are installed with the sleeve OVER the reduced barrel diameter then reamed true. Both are recent installs by Poly Choke and epoxied in place. This I know as I spoke over the phone with the Martins on several occasions.

They are now out of business as of last August I think
No epoxy on any I have all silver soldered some inside some out, some even with threads and I mean way back not the polychoke 2.
I cannot remember which one the original polychoke used but remember different sleeves for different tolerance ranges
There were a few other makers but basically the same choke design

Barrel thickness not there? My 840 has the thickest barrel out of all of my 12ga. Barrel was hacksawed around 19” so I’d just get it turned down to the proper diameter the same time that I had the ends cleaned up.
 
Looks like I found a proper sized poly choke thanks to a kind CGNer who gave me a hot tip. This one is already on a M37 bbl so is the right size for my bbl.

Dude you are taking me back 50 years. Maybe it was barrel too thick and thus too large a diameter. God knows
I don't remember but I do remember the old man ran a gunshop and would not fit them on cooey for some reason

Cool. Not sure who is going to install for you but make sure they put it in straight that was the hard part if I recall correctly
