Poly M305 Newbie

I've put around 350 rounds through mine...mix of american eagle, surplus, barnaul, mfs and Hornady TAP, all 145-155gr bullets. No serious issues so far. Haven't checked head spaced yet though. Only casings I've had crack down the neck so far are a couple Barnaul steel casings. It's a 2012 batch 22" barreled m305.

there was another new guy on here a few months ago. he asked a bunch of questions, got answers, said he was off to the range to test fire the rifle, then we never heard from him again. I always assumed his rifle exploded and killed him.

just kidding. they work somewhere between good and great, depending on the individual rifle. even the good ones are fun as heck.

Was this a reference to me???

If so, sorry I haven't posted an update. Got out there and put a couple hundred rounds through my shorty.
Then bought a 22" version (Polytech) which was better put together than the shorty.

Put a couple hundred rounds through that too. Both now have several hundred rounds through each of them.

They're definitely rough, but cheap and fun to shoot!

Does anyone remember the episode of M*A*S*H with the patient who wanted to commit suicide after his rifle blew and put the bolt through his face? That would have been an M1 Garand, but close......

first one blew up in my face... second one just about did as well... bad bolts.

Have had issues with stove piping on the second one as well, gas system is to soft and needs constant reshimming.

both shot 2 inch groups out of the box then within a few hundred rounds widdned out to 8 to 10 inch groups.... then exploded in the case of the first one

Well I suppose you don't want to buy a third one then? Unless these stories are some kind of scooby-doo-esque plot to get me to sell half price, I think I may want to be out of this platform and stick with my name brand firearms that I feel comfortable with. Didn't plan on buying head spacing testers and all the aftermarket doo-hickeys - and as it stands I'll always be waiting for the rifle to go KA-BOOM when it goes ka-boom.

Dont give up on it too easy. As has been said before, even 2000 dollar rifles occassionally malfunction. There are literally thousands of these Norcs out there and how many pple have actually had one blow up...Not too many that Ive heard of. You dont have to change anything on the gun...unless you want to. Me I certainly wouldnt invest a penny in the gun that wasnt necessary. I bought a new stock cos Im a big bugger and a scope cos Im damn near blind......nothing else.
And if you do sell it I'll give you 10 bucks more than Pop :)))
Hate to see you walk away from a great gun.

I am buying a 3rd one but instead of norinco stamped on the side it says LRB M25 and has a rear lug.

the second one is getting rebuilt... new barrel and bolt. They are coming in with the LRB

Lord Evil I don't recall the actual post you did originally about the blow up, but was it a slam fire, an out of battery detonation caused by neck sized only handloads????. Again I don't remember what happened to it??

no, I looked into it more... as I got more tools to check it out.

It was a head space issue, the hand loads were underpowered, and the case head space was proper, infact I shot all the remain rounds rounds through my tikka after I verified they were gtg a few months latter when i bought a percision mic to check them out.

The back end of the case litraly detatched and hit my hand with a pepering of brass and hot gas when the bolt came back.

inspection of the rifle showed a very large gap between the bolt lugs and the reciever when in battery after that.

rounds fired through showed increasing case signs as the day had progressed. I checked the original 10 or so for sign , but failed to check as I continued to fire throughout the day. by the time I was around the 200 mark the case heads were cracked. the case shoulders were bulged right out. and then one blew up on me.
