Poor Bubba'ed Lee Enfield MLE - seeking advice / UPDATE Feb. 28, refurbed, pics.

i just found a lee sporter in a local gunshop in quite nice condition it is missing the buttplate i may have to make one till i find the right one ...im still trying to find out excatly which one i have its not quite the same as most pics posted ..a fellow gunner is helping me out alot...the damn registry had the gun go to provence so its not home yet ..i did get a bit of history tho an elderly lady brought into this store to sell ..it was her grandads and it was handed down to her and she hunted with it...i suspect the butt has been trimmed to fit her and thats why the buttplate is missing ..oh well its just part of the history or the piece...having said that it comes up very nice on my shoulder and im 6'3 with long arms

Nice job Lou, were it me I'd ditch the white spacers and if I was feeling bold maybe shape the wood a bit more to resemble the classic lines. Good for another 100 years!

Thanks guys, much appreciated. (Cdn303, that picture did make me smile!)

RRco, I was thinking about the white spacers indeed. The front one did slightly suffer from the furniture stripper I used to remove the varnish. Maybe for a latter time, because I need to resume work on a job for CGN's JuanValdez! (he's been waiting for a while and is very patient) :)

I also thought about reshaping the butt stock to look like the Lee Speed but the butt stock from the donor rifle was really nice as is; if a rough-looking one shows up then I'd consider it a better candidate.

Ok maybe there's also some laziness on my part, I'll admit :D

Now I only hope it shoots well; it should, the bore and crown are really nice.

Lou
