Depends. If it was machine from aluminum it would be far more cost effective than making it stamped steel which is extremely expensive.
However this topic has been beaten to death before.
Stamped steel more expensive than forged and machined aluminum? The whole design of the rifle was that Stoner wanted to make an AR15 like rifle that was easier and CHEAPER to produce than the rather complicated manufacturing processes that the AR15 required. So became the CHEAPER and less complex AR18 from which the semi-auto AR180 and AR180B derived.
In the states we have been bugging the Armalite company to bring back the AR180 in aluminum or the original stamped steel but have only received lip service. They are too busy selling AR15 lineup to bother with it I guess. Even a steel liner for the polymer receiver would have been a big improvement and solved the weak hinge problem. I may be mistaken but I do believe that Armalite still retains the rights to the AR180 design. Not that it matters to China.
