Post/share your SKS groupings

I took my Type56 SKS to the range today to test a newly installed gas tube. It has a Nikon Spur 3moa red dot on it. For some odd reason I had to readjust zero on it but once I did I was amazed at the groupings I could achieve.

50 yards - 0.55'' group
100 yards - 1.55'' group
200 yards - 8.35'' group

I think the groups get worse as the distances increase in part because of the red dot's limited capabilities at longer ranges and also because of my eyesight somewhat struggling just to see the target clearly without any magnification whatsoever.

The trigger on my SKS is terrible but has somewhat of a benefit too. It has 4-5 stages of take up and once you get to the 5th stage it becomes a hair-match trigger even if you abort your trigger pull, that last stage remains and awaits you to fire off the round at any time Laugh2

Do you have groups to share with your SKS?

Never have i gotten accuracy like that from an SKS. Cherish that unicorn u have.

Ps Your target pics dont work for me.

when sks rifles were 69.99 from castle armoury I would buy lots and flip them for 150$ one I held onto would shoot inch and a half also...I eventually sold that one and have never found another that would shoot that well...duh me

Here’s a few from awhile back.

50y target, 2” red center & 7.5” outer ring. There’s always a flyer lol.

100y target, same dimensions on the circles.

I got it down to 3 1/4” at 100y with hornady sst, my 53 Tula didn’t like the mfs at all at 100y. Came close to a five shot group in the 2-2 1/4” size but I had a flyer or I pulled th shot lol, had a hard time making out the orange diamond on the while paper. Too much bright on bright, will revisit it with a black aiming point another time.

This would’ve made me really happy if the fifth shot was in the same place as the first four, it was with the norc white box non corrosive. Overall I’m happy with how this gun shoots at 100y with iron sights after only shimming the action, definitely good enough to hunt deer and bear with next season. Will be a handy truck/bush gun.

Butcherbill, is norc white box corrosive in your experience?

100% non corrosive in my experience, I just checked mine and there’s zero rust anywhere in the gas tube/piston or down the barrel/bolt face. Those pics were from 2018 and that’s the last time I ran any corrosive, since then I’ve only run norc white box and some ppu sp through them and haven’t cleaned them. I’ve only oiled them lightly here and there.

Here's a group with SKSs! Looks like the magazine boxes might be polished?

Here's some from a '51 Tula in Tapco with irons, the 'Circle' Bull is ca. 2" diameter. I shot first from 5 @ 50 off bench-bags and 5 offhand (the first shot went 'off' to top right). This was on New Years' Day '22. Then last Summer from the bench-bags at 100 yds, one mag at the '+', one at bottom-right circle, and one at the bottom-left (only 3 hits), with some 100yd shots by Marlin 60 & B22 as well. The '+' is ca 6" HxW on a full sheet of posterboard.
BTW - These were all shot with Chinese Milsurp.

What tool are you guys using to adjust your front sight? I need to adjust mine, but the tools I see on amazon have piss poor reviews and none of my local firearms dealers have anything in stock.

Some pretty good groups here.

A consistent, under 2" at 100 meters SKS sounds almost miraculous. Have never seen this mythical creature yet

Mine have run the gamut from a little over 3" on the good end to around 5"
