Blackmore is relatively new and has a great sporting clays course - not to mention pattern plate - american field sporting - 5 stand...

They are very reasonably priced for membership and a little less expensive for member clays. They host regular competitions that can be registered for both NSCA and CNSCA at VERY reasonable price.

Located near Rimbey AB and, for me, that is the only drawback. It's an hour and a half drive for me and Silver Willow is half that. I'd rather be shooting than driviing. Great club though and great people. Growing more all the time.

Another I've never heard of! I'm glad shooters are contributing to this thread to get awareness of what is available out there. If those of us who are quite involved in these disciplines are not aware of many of the clubs and facilities available can you imagine what it is like for a newcomer trying to get information? We need to get the info out there, that in and of itself can go a long ways towards participation and survival of the sport.

I have been wanting to get over to Blackmore. I'm only 45 minutes away. The non member price per clay is tough to stomach when I pay 17 cents a clay for skeet, but looks like a lot of fun and worth it for a fun day off.

That is why I shoot trap and skeet primarily as the price of sporting clays locally is over double what we are for skeet and trap at our club. We have noticed a few that shot sporting clays regularly have taken to shooting skeet every week now and when I was curious and asked why they switched the price was the main factor. They liked that they could come out twice a week and shoot 100 targets each outing for slightly less than the price of 100 targets at sporting clays in a single outing. We have two regulars that come out each evening early and are usually done before most arrive. They mix up their round and shoot the targets in different orders etc and use nothing but 4.10's. I enjoy watching them and occasionally join them. They like to tease me calling my 20ga a cannon...:p

17 cents a clay is cheap. We pay 6 dollars per round singles and 12 for doubles. So 24 cents per clay. I believe its the same when shooting 5 stand. Havent got a chance to try 5 stand as they shoot it Wednesday starting around 4. Trap they shoot Saturday morning so its easier to get to.

Yeah our club is $100 for a 24 round shoot card = $4.17/round. Cheapest rate I have seen in this thread so far.

Target prices are up close to $3 a case more over our last order. Right now our members are paying 0.20 per target for 2021. Our treasurer went back and did a cost analysis and it appears costs have been rising 2 cents per target per two year order interval. We order enough to do two years at a time and with anticipating cost increases to continue we need to add the extra on to prices to cover the next order so as to be able to replace the targets at the increased rates.

What manufacturers targets are you throwing ?

To the point about target prices, you really can't compare skeet or trap to sporting clays. As a small example, Silver Willow's blue course has 56 traps - which not only neeed to be purchased, but also maintained and refilled on a daily basis. I believe (unsure) specialized targets also cost extra. Not many minis, midis, battue or rabbits on a skeet field. ;) Footprint of land required is also different.

Just a different cost of doing business.

Oh for sure, there is a reason it's more expensive. Our club is also purely volunteer, we refill the traps, haul clays to the traps, maintain them, cut the grass ect. Our lease is also far less expensive (I imagine) than a site like the Edmonton gun club.

Oh yes I know that and understand it completely. From my perspective though I like to be able to shoot more with my $ and skeet and trap allow me to do that with the reduced associated costs. I'd rather put the $ difference into more ammo and more targets. One thing though too when comparing costs. You can buy a skeet or sporting clays machine for half the cost of a regulation ATA machine. We have three trap houses with Pat Traps. You can buy an entire 5 stand layout with controller for the cost of just those three trap layouts. You also have machines with more parts for servicing owing to separate motors for the interruptor system, double the target drop guides and double the brushes and rollers as the machines have to be capable of switching from throwing singles to doubles. No matter how you slice it it's not cheap to keep a club up and running regardless of the discipline.

Typically, when I shooting sporting clays I shoot 100 targets. When shooting skeet or trap I often shoot 150 or more targets. Net result is my shooting costs are more or less the same which ever clay target game I choose.

Do you guys hold ATA shoots? I knew there was a club in Bonnyville but little information about seemed to be available. Thanks for posting!

I don’t think we have had any official ATA shoots out there, all just casual weekly trap shooting. It’s kind of weird now that I think about because almost everyone there goes to other places for big shoots lol. Our range has been focusing a lot on getting ipsc and maple seed stuff right now. The website is BSSA.ca if you’d like to check us out.

Galt has to be one of the nicest facilities in Ontario, if not Canada. 250 acres of multi-discipline shooting and outdoor sports. Only problem, like a lot of Ontario is the waiting lists. Probably a little pricey compared to other parts of the country, but being close to the GTA, that's what we deal with.

- multiple Trap and Skeet fields; 50 acres with 17 stations of Sporting Clays; 5 Stand
-25 to 200 yd rifle range (rumour of opening up 300yd), also with 20-100 metre rimfire silhouette
-restricted 25 to 200 yd out door
-indoor 20 metre
-archery 10 to 50 yd, 3d targets, 100 yd practice area.
-fishing stocked pond

I've heard it's a heck of a nice facility.

Shot my first (and only) ATA registered shoot at Galt - geeze over 35 years ago. It was memorable because somebody at the shoot cracked off a shot at a news helicopter that he felt was causing erratic birds.
