Potential for a "more affordable" Bullpup Bolt Action Precision/Hunting Rifle.

Some folks in the thread under the ATRS section were requesting a thread be started in the general forum so there it is!

I am starting this thread out of my own personal interest, and to see what options are and could be available from known manufacturers.

A Canadian made bullpup bolt action precision rifle sub 3K (preferably but not necessarily) in cost would be really awesome. There is a huge market gap in this area currently (judging from talking with people on here and at my local range) and someone could fill it with something unique and functional. Things I think people would generally be looking for:

Available in 16"-24" barrel lengths

Short action and long action models (maybe short action first with long action to follow)

Takes AICS magazines

Adjustable trigger preferably

I just wanted to start this thread to guage interest to maybe draw the attention of a manufacturer or importer.

So far the only available option I can see here is the bluegrass moonshiner rifle from the states, however I have never heard of them coming to Canada. If no one in Canada is willing to design and manufacture, perhaps someone would be willing to import these rifles:

I would definintely want a rifle like the moonshiner. AR grips, buttpads, potentially even hanguards, heck make it a Stoner type bolt and use ar barrel extensions. That could open up mags etc! Perfect precision companion to the stag’s, 102’s, MVS’s and SLR’s! I realize this would not be easy (or maybe even possible) but I can dream. Just need an un ported barrel like a Troy PAR/SAR and a clever design, if it was up to me it would basically be an action like that of the Troy SAR but bullpup’ed! Not gonna hold my breath, but man! That would be cool!

Definitely good ideas, ar parts can be cheap or pricey. If you could just buy the receiver and build your own that would be pretty nifty as well, don't foget we could use standard 16" barrels too!

Although I would LOVE a more affordable alternative to the Desert Tech I have to admit there is NOTHING more ###y than this

You aren't wrong, but most of us can't just drop 6-10 grand on one rifle :/

I can't drop that kind of coin on one rifle either bud, hence me saying I would love a more affordable alternative to the DT. There's just next to no alternative. Hopefully that changes

I hope so too, it just seems so obvious to me for someone to manufacture midrange bullpup bolt actions.

driller, why don't you reach out to Wolverine Supplies and see if John can look into importing the Bluegrass Armory rifles?

If there is anyone out there that can make it happen it's him.

I don't see it being around 3k though as they have a $2500 USD price tag but you don't get if you don't ask.

Done already :)

I would prefer to buy Canadian in the future if possible though. America eats enough of our money and economy as it is.

If I were to make a new model bullpup bolt action, I would make something new. Something you can sell on its merits all around the globe, rather than "made locally" mindset.

And I would start with looking at FG-42 schema to make my creativity going. Because:

- All bullpup bolt action suck because the magazine for full size cartridge is too long and too far back. It forces the grip and trigger to be way too far forward. So you don't have nice trigger due to long transfer bars and you can't really work the bolt except on a bench.
- If you put the magazine on the side like FG-42 you can feed from a side, have trigger and grip right under the bolt. It would be way better than a full bullpup.
- Bolt action do not require 30 round magazines such that a side mounted magazine is not that heavy to tilt the rifle on a side. FG-42 had 20 rounders and it was fine. 5 round would not even bother anyone.
- The bolt handle would be more to the center of mass and cycle way easier than full bullpup rifles.
- It would be unique and awesome as fck!

Something like this, picture magazine sticking horizontally from the left:

and probably slightly more elegant optic mount )

moonshine rifle looks interesting . Not inexpensive though. Still I’m a sucker for Bullpup rifles. Yes the Desert tech is extremely high priced. I opted for Cadex instead even though I do like bullpups.

Moonshine rifle seems to have become vapor ware after 2012? Seems to be the same company that makes the core 15 AR. But again no word of the Bullpup bolt action after 2012.

After more research you seem to be correct. I can't find anything about it after 2012. Seems odd.

Bullpup for a shorter rifle so you can easyly move inthight bush. I like it, but why bolt? Good reliable semi, yes but never with a bolt way back

My thoughts as well. I can see the benefit of a bullpup semi but I don't get the appeal in a bolt (outside of some applications that don't apply to any of us: urban/mechanized sniper?). If you really need a short bolt gun, why not just a 16" barrelled traditional rifle?
