Powder Choice .45ACP

I have used W231 for years and it works well enough. I am totally going to try some VV powder when I run out of W231 though. I have heard nothing but good stuff about the VV powders.
 
After using Unique, Titegroup, 231, WST, Universal, Clays, and a few others for 45 auto, I'm going to do my best at staying into VV powders.

5.5 grains of N340 with 230 FMJs = considering that 5.5 grains gives you almost 1300 rounds, you're extra cost is around 16$ per thousand rounds...

Well worth it in my opinion. If you haven't used VV, buy a pound for your favorite load and be prepared to dump all of your other powders...

:agree:. This stuff will spoil you the very first time you use it. I use N320 in 45 ACP and N350 in 38 Super. Yep, the price per pound is a little higher but you use so little per round you'll find cost not to be an issue unless you're one of those poor souls trying to reload 45 ACP for economy alone.
 
I use W231 or titegroup interchangeably depending on which I can get in volume at the time. I find 231 to be little dirty with lead bullets but nothing that has stopped a 500 round practice session yet.

I use universal clays for some real kickass loads in 45 Auto..

5.7Gr under a 230GR Jacketed round nose gives a good 850fps out of my gun and a pretty impressive muzzle blast to boot...

For plinking.... 3.6 of regular clays.... no suprises and even the kids can shoot it comfortably
 
231 is one of the preferred loads for 45 but i use WST as it takes on average 0.5 grains less. the trouble with titegroup is find it. right now i know of no one in the country who has it. another one to look at is Ramshoot competition. The VV powders are also great.
 
I have been using Bullseye in my 45 ACP ammo for a few years now, mainly because I got a really good deal on 2 eight pound kegs of it. I am on the last bit of the second keg now and will probably try something else once it is gone.

I truly thought there would have been more of us using WST. Hidden gem I guess. ;)
 
VV N320 for my 45acp, standard 9mm, standard 40sw. cleanest ,consistent, but costly,
if only we have a dealer close to Toronto, then the HAZMAT and shipping would make a difference
VVN350 and/ or VV3N37 for my 9mm major and 38 supercomp
 
I just wanted to add my ++++ for VVN320...

I just switched from 4756 to VVN320 in my .40 S&W and wow what a difference.. The powder is much cleaner and you use substantially less... It is also makes major power factor but is much softer recoil load than my previous powder...

I also use it in my 9mm and am glad to hear that you can also use it for .45 ACP reloading...

Could i ask what you load would be for a 200 gr bullet in .45?

That would give me a good starting place..
