Hey guys,

What is everyone paying for powders at your local gun store....in my hometown, the guy is charging 46.99/lbs for Hodgdon and IMR powders....I see a lot of places are only charging in around the 32-33 dollars per pound price range. Seems like quite a difference 14.00-15.00 dollars more ....shipping cant be anywhere that much more unless the guys is shipping each and every pound to his store seperately by taxi.
Makes if hard to support Joe local when you think you're getting gouged....is 47.00 the going price and 32-33.00 just a great deal??? or is 47.00 just a lot of extra mark up???

4.5 cents per grain compared to 6.7 cents per grain....thats about 10 cent more per 308 round, or about 50% more cost for the powder component.

I'd say my local pusher sells for about $35/lb on average. Sometimes he gets a bunch from an estate or other such thing and ,eats it go for about $20/lb. I picked up a 4 lb jug of 2400 recently for that. Having said that, I did get a couple of pounds of a powder I was looking for for $28/lb from another retailer. Soooo....I'd say you're paying too much.

Last summer when my local store finally got some powder in stock, it was mostly around $30-$32/lb, and titegroup was $25. After the shipment mostly sat there for about 3 or 4 months, they jacked everything to at least $35, including titegroup. I think a lot of people must have complained, because titegroup is back to $26 and most of the rest in the $33 range. Primers are $50-$60/1000 though.

Oh boy don't get me started on this one !

So working on a .284 build . Iv been sourcing components online and paying 34-35 a pound SHIPPED. So strolled into to local out fit to poke around . Saw some h4831sc , ooh boy I'll take that ... 50 F***KING dollars befor tax!! Really ?!? I asked why so high ? And got " oh well powder is hard to get these days". And walked out to the tune of " ya it is , but that doesn't stop the rest of Canada selling it an an appropriate price and not just ripping people off "

So most of the popular stuff Is 45$ + a lbs

Can't wait till cabelas gets on the island

I guess with lack of competition some of these guys figure they got you captive so they gouge the hell out of you. I'm pretty sure his (my local gun store) pricing policy is ....cabelas is charging xx.xx and shipping would cost xx.xx so my price will be 47.00.
He also had his remington 783's (I wanted a budget rifle as a back up haul on the quad spare) on for regular price 569.00 or so and a sale price of 479.00. What a deal...lol.
The problem is with the internet its a small world and canada is even a smaller country...guess it will be buy ONLY what I absolutely need locally and order the rest from dealers with fair pricing policies.
Thanks for the responses guys
PS....I bought a 783 from a site sponsor for 299.00 :)

Sorry, but it looks like you are dealing with f****ng thieves!!

Three weeks ago, I paid $26/lbs for IMR4198, $175 for 8 lbs Varget, and $22/lbs for Unique.

Where: from a small dealer in rural Ontario.

Powder seems to get cheaper the farther east you go. Look at Hummason's (sp?) Prices then compare to the most reputable and upstanding western dealers. We get raped for some reason. Most powders locally are $36+/lb for stick and $30+ for ball. Recently some varget was $48. I didn't even buy any cos the last two lbs I bought from there were $38. 8 lb jugs out east are dirt cheap and cost $50+ more out here.

Hi guys, right here in the Fraser Valley we have a good option at rustywood.ca he's in Mission and advertises on CGN. I just bought rl-15 there Friday for $30/#. Most ball powder are $30 Alliant is $30(limited selection right now but stuff is coming in) stick is $33/#. He regularly updates his powder inventory online. There's gotta be someone decent on the island, you've just gotta find em. Over here though between budgetshootersupply.ca in Surrey and Rustywood in Mission I don't feel like finding components is a gamble or rip-off any more. BTW these guys are around $39/1000 for primers which seems fair to me.

Way back in the last shortage(6yrs ago?) I paid $45 for a lb of 748 and $5/100 for primers at a popular Abbottsford store. Finding cheaper suppliers is nice but when push comes to shove if my LGS has it and I need it...I buy it. I've cultivated a good relationship with one LGS and even though he doesn't have the best prices on powder(reload supplies aren't his specialty) I've got back more than the difference in other ways like free upgraded sights on the 20gauge I bought my kids. He's a good guy to know in the long run and I like to see him do well.

If you can save a lot by all means do so. $50/# is ridiculous but $10 more for a small order here or there is easily made up for in fuel or shipping... spending $2 to save $1 doesn't prove much. It was 110 km round trip for powder Friday so about $25 fuel in my truck but that cost was spread over 7lbs of powder. For 1 lb I'll just go to my local guy since its not worth the extra fuel.

Island guys you should set up a group buy(I know there are some forum rules there and I'm not trying to start one) since there seem to.be more than a few frustrated reloaders there.

Now zero the scale and start loadin'

I buy from Hummason's but if I had to buy from my local place it's about $8 more per pound which is fair because they have to make money too.

So if you overpay by $16.00, it will make it fairer, "double fair".

That makes sense. Completely got it.

:)
