powder prices in your area?

Hey guys,

What is everyone paying for powders at your local gun store....in my hometown, the guy is charging 46.99/lbs for Hodgdon and IMR powders....I see a lot of places are only charging in around the 32-33 dollars per pound price range. Seems like quite a difference 14.00-15.00 dollars more ....shipping cant be anywhere that much more unless the guys is shipping each and every pound to his store seperately by taxi.
Makes if hard to support Joe local when you think you're getting gouged....is 47.00 the going price and 32-33.00 just a great deal??? or is 47.00 just a lot of extra mark up???

4.5 cents per grain compared to 6.7 cents per grain....thats about 10 cent more per 308 round, or about 50% more cost for the powder component.

How many grains to a pound? Google says about 7000, is this right ? So then a LB @ 6.7 a grain would be about 469.00. Am I all screwed up here?

Pretty well all powders are a flat $30/lb from my local retailer but haven't tried to see if I ordered the usually cheaper pistol powders if I'd be charged less. Just ordered 4lbs of H4895 so we'll see if I get some sort of a discount.

Powder seems to get cheaper the farther east you go. Look at Hummason's (sp?) Prices then compare to the most reputable and upstanding western dealers. We get raped for some reason. Most powders locally are $36+/lb for stick and $30+ for ball. Recently some varget was $48. I didn't even buy any cos the last two lbs I bought from there were $38. 8 lb jugs out east are dirt cheap and cost $50+ more out here.

Believe me it stops there. Keep going east and it gets even higher than out west that is if you can even find any at all

47.00 per lb devided by 155.5 loads = $.30 per load
32.00 per lb devided by 155.5 loads = $.20 per load

I'm really depressed because until John Emmett in St. Catharines ran afoul of the law (locals know what I'm talking about) we probably had the cheapest powder in Canada. Alliant Promo for $85/8 pounds, Red Dot $105/8 pounds, Varget about $25/pound, Hodgdon Benchmark $24/pound, etc., etc. Interestingly I understand that Hummason's got all John's powder & suddenly the powder went up about $15-20/jug for the exact same stuff. Now I have to drive 45 minutes longer to pay 25% more for my powder. Colour me unhappy & feeling ripped off.

Strange that Hummasons and Lawry's are so close together. Must be a super big demand for Clay targets sports in the area. Both with better than anywhere else prices for powder.

I see that powder distributors in Canada listed by Hogdgon shows Big RockSports/Inland Pacific to pretty much control the distribution of powder from Manitoba west....5 independent distributors east of Manitoba and Big Rock/Inland with locations in Winipeg, Edmonton, and Langley....that probably has a lot to do with cheaper average prices in Eastern Canada.
But still prices in BC range from around 30.00/lb to 50.00/lb

So if you overpay by $16.00, it will make it fairer, "double fair".

That makes sense. Completely got it.

:)

They only sell 1 lb containers so Unique is $30 instead of $22. I guess I could have made that clearer. Also, if you can't make the drive to Ancaster yourself, then you have to pay for the transportation and mark up. It's not overpaying if you can't go get it yourself. In that case, its just what it costs.

Somebody has RL-15?

rustywood.ca & bcredneck.com both received shipments of RL-15 about 10 days ago. Rustywood had a lot of clients with standing pre-paid orders(I was offered the option a couple months ago but took my chances) and listed the remainder of the shipment as in stock on Thursday night(Feb 6th).

There may still be some available...

Where is the business bcredneck.com located?

Well it's nice to hear that Alliant powders are on the move into Canada again, I don't think I'll run out and gorge on any RL 15 right now as I have a pound or so left, leave it for the rest of you boys. Now that Alliant is back on the shelves I take this to be a good sign of things to come, they were the last to fill Canadian orders so I believe that means the drought is over and we should start seeing more and more powder on our LGS shelves over the next few months. When they are all stocked up again and all makes and models are regularly available I will go a-gorging again, also you guys be sure to remember who was charging 50 bucks a pound and let them know your displeasure when it is available everywhere.

Anyone know an online source for black powder with reasonable shipping on small quantities (like under 10lbs)?

Cabelas is my only option here and $35 per pound is akin to surprise unsolicited sodomy.

I just got into reloading not to long ago and my fist undertaking was getting powder here in Edmonton. I’ve been paying $35 to $45 /lb shipped or picked up on private deals; I could not find stock in local stores. in one case I paid $49 for 1 lb of RL22 shipped. Now I got few lb’s of each powder I want to try and I should be good for some time
