powder prices on the rise??

Ive seen local powder from 40-50$ a pound for common Hodgon or IMR. 60$ sounds like your shop has a good mark up.
As long as I can get IMR and Hodgdons from Higginson and Hummanson at 34 bucks a pound I don't care much what the local price is. Their premium is the price of convenience.
Powder prices float around. My first pounds 35 odd years ago were 20 bucks a can. That creeped up to 30 shortly after, then down to 13-14 because of an aggressive dealer that changed the way things were done. 34 bucks is a heck of a lot easier to get than 20 bucks was back in the 80s.
What bugs me is a bag of brass or box of bullets never used to be worth more than a set of dies. Whats up with that?

Components prices have pissed me off the last 5 or so years. Powder has almost doubled, bullets and brass are getting silly. I still have pounds of Varget with $28 price tags and they are only a few years old. I have been shooting less the last few years, I still have stock of components from when they were cheaper, but seeing the prices now makes me want to hold onto them.

Thus the demand is about to go up before it gets better.
As for powder there is this word called inflation that or your local retailer is gouging at $60.00 for that Reloader you choose to buy.

Well you can thank insurance companies. The cost of transporting DG/Haz mat goods has skyrocketed, hence the reason I don't do it anymore. The exchange doesn't help either. There are only two insurance companies that will cover crossborder commercial trucking in Canada unless the trucking company can self insure. A few more options in the US but still expensive. Stricter DOT regs in the US are making it harder to find qualified truck drivers. Cost of transportation as a whole has increased dramatically. Fewer and fewer carriers are carrying DG goods. Costs more to cross borders commercially now, and there are only a few locations where DG/Haz mat can cross.
