What are most folks using for powder storage??

Lockable steel safes??

Home built of the appropriate materials??

According to Explosives Act, one has to keep powder in a wooden box, 3/4" thick board or plywood and fitted with brass fixtures. 'Explosives' written on outside.
I built one for about $20.

So, do these containers have to be affixed to anything?

I am going 3/4 plywood cupboard with a door under my reloading bench. Don't think it needs to be attached.

I built my shelves above my bench with powder in mind. Currently my shelves hold about 20lbs of powder on two shelves, which keeps me loading for a few months at a time.

The front and sides are pegboard on a 2x4 frame, and the top is left open in case of an explosion as per what I remember of the regulations on powder storage. I still have to get an explosive warning sticker on the door though.


Works for me.

You might want to read the regulations again.The magazine is required to be locked.That requirement doesn't make much sense if there is no top on the container.

exclusively for propellants. No federal licence or possession permit is required for this type of storage. The outside of the magazine must be marked with the word “explosive.” no flammable or highly combustible material may be stored in or near the magazine.

I am good. (Minus the lock, but there is a lock on the room, good point though, I will get a padlock for it this weekend.)

10lbs of powder is under 10kg. 1kg = 2.2kg.

Also, there is no top because it goes into the joists of the house like the above photo, but is not able to be reached from the outside.

I am pretty sure the 10kg is not the total limit. I think maybe no more than 10lb in each container? I think the limit is somewhere closer to 75kg. Someone will correct me if im wrong im sure.
