Looking to get into PPC 3 gun matches. The rule indicates a shotgun barrel of no more than 22". I have never shot one of these matches. Is the semi better than the pump? Does it even make a difference in these competitions?

For the matches held in the past I've used a modified choke . It all depends at the distance they set the targets . I would suggest you buy something with removable chokes

I've looked into tactical semi shotguns and there more than I want to spend. I'll have to keep looking for a deal or learn to shoot faster with a pump!! Thanks for the info.

Can you provide some details to the type of shooting at these matches? Do you guys just play by yourselves or are these matches open to the public?

I shoot these matches as well. Most guys use 870 with extended mags. Semi will be limited to 5 rounds with need to reload. Extended mag will get you ten rounds plus ghost load plus one in the chamber . That will help.

Answer to the other fellows question, look up 3gun nation, our rules are similar.

If you really want to try something different , I build a moss 500 with adaptive tactical scorpion kit. Start with 10 round mag and reload with 5 rounders. Unfortunately , I am still learning and most guys can out shoot me with 870s even if they need to top up .

When is the next match? Sign up info?
Are the rules posted anywhere? You say the rules are similar to 3 gunnation..... but why the limitation of shotgun barrel length?

From my understanding, this is still in the developmental stages. No matches have been established yet. Not sure why there is a barrel length restriction??

My understanding is that for now this is BGC thing only. My understanding also , BUT I MAY BE WRONG, is that it is/will be sanctioned by CSSA. The reason for barrel length restriction is safety. This is a dynamic movement sport, and longer barrels may present a safety issue. Your location shows as Barrie, so you may want to drop by the club and chat with one of the directors who will be able to give you accurate information. I am just one of the "mutts" that comes out to shoot.

You gotta be kidding....

No offence, but if they think long barrels are a safety problem they should find someone who knows what they're doing and get some advice.

My 26" barrelled shot gum must be a ticking timebomb!
My AR has a 20" barrel, I suppose that's the equivalent of a tactical nuke???

THIS!!!

It would be awesome to see 3gun matches at BGC. Their facilities would be fantastic for multigun matches.

I just read through some of the previous posts, you have a 22" barrel restriction, but extended mags (which go well beyond 22") are allowed?
Doesn't really make sense.

I'd love to see 3gun matches at BGC as well (ones open to non members especially!!!)
You guys have excellent action ranges there.

If this is still in the developmental stage, I suggest keep developing until the barrel length restriction thing is developed out of existence!!

As far as naming it, why does it need anything specific with "tactical" or "Police Combat"
Unless you guys are all cops, then its dumb.
3 Gun, or Multigun. Simple and people know what you are referring to.
No negative connotations, especially if CSSA is sanctioning it.

And just to illustrate, here's a video from the last IPSC shotgun world championships.
This guy is shooting in Modified Division so his gun is approx 1320mm long
That's much longer than 22" barrel and he's manipulating the gun in tight spaces.
His movements seem pretty dynamic to me

Not sure what all the bashing is about? Am I missing something? Why is a barrel restriction such an issue? Whether its for safety reasons or not, it is what they are implementing as a rule. If this is a problem then don't shoot this type of match. I think its great when a club introduces a new shooting discipline. I have shot IDPA matches with a 26" and there were no issues. So I agree that 3gun matches can be shot safely with longer barrels. The short barrel restriction will probably make the course of fire more difficult and gives me a reason to buy a new gun. I can't see a problem with that.
