I wouldn't call it bashing.
people with many years of 3 gun experience shooting across Canada and the US are offering their opinions.
Barrel length makes no difference to the difficulty of a stage (or the safety for that matter)
Rules for the sake of rules gets tiresome.

If matches are held and open to non members, I'll definitely come shoot.
 
For those of you who are showing interest in the discipline . The rule book has been through a series of changes. The discipline is called now Multi Gun Canada it involves up to 4 firearms pistol, shotgun, carbine and precision rifle. The basis of this discipline was the NRA PPC division called Tactical Police Competition. Due to our unique laws it was modified for use in Canada, the original division were Patrol and Tactical based on law enforcement firearmsand was limited to duty length firearms. The divisions now are Iron sights, Optical and heavy Metal (45 cal or greater handguns and 7.62x39 or greater cal) since the changes the max length shotgun 26 inch barrel, rifle is 20 inch barrel max.The matches are dynamic and practical(use of Tactics)involving lots of rounds and multiple guns at the same time during the same stages.
The changes came as a result of consultation with CSSA and Barrie gun club board.it has been approved by the CFO as a discipline at Barrie. Any further info PM me as I am one of the originators of the discipline and the lead instructor. The entire program is available through CSSA with our assistance.
There is a complete rule book, Range official course and Instructor manual available.

Thanks for clearing this up. I mentioned the 22" shotgun barrel restriction in my original post as that was the information I was given. Nice to see this was approved.

So why have a barrel length restriction at all?
Seems like it is a rule for the sake of having a rule and serves no purpose.

The idea is to make it a fair playing field for all instead of having several classes . Also to stick with duty type firearms hence why rifles used in the precision match is limited to 20" or else there would be guys showing up with 26-30" barrels and having a slight advantage.
 
Unless BGC opened up a 1000m range, there should be no significant perceivable difference in performance at 100m between a 20" or 30" rifle.
If there is any movement involved in the precision part, the longer barrel guys are at a disadvantage (longer and heavier)
There should be no need for divisions other than those listed.

Regardless, when is the first match!!!!!!
I just want to shoot.

How can they limit things to "duty" guns simply by dictating max barrel length?
My AR certaimly falls within the criteria set, but it's by no means a duty gun. Fancy trigger, fancy BCG, fancy barrel along with other fancies make it shoot way sweeter than what most would call a "duty gun".... You could say such rifles give an advantage to the shooter... way more so than a couple extra inches of barrel..

Again... not bashing. Just wondering re the rational behind some of the rules.
