So im thinking about trying my hand at one of the above mentioned sports and was wondering what are the differences between them all? Im looking for something that that i can shoot with a CZ-75b and is easy to get into.

IPSC i know i need a black badge for, but other then that all i know is that everyone seems to like tricked out 1911's :p

PPC i know seems to like revolvers but semi autos are fine and according to the EOHC its a more "friendly" type of competition

As for IDPA all i know is that its concealed carry ?

so if anyone could shed some light on the above sports it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

IDPA is shot around the premise of Concealed Carry. So, we draw from concealment (hawaiian shirt) and retain partially loaded mags. It involves self defense scenarios, where accuracy counts over speed. Things like shooting from cover, and reloading behind cover are important. Movement is limited, so you don't have to be a marathon runner to compete, you just have to shoot well.

The required holster safety course is only around $10 (course is actually free, but the hosting club charges a range fee I believe), and an IDPA membership is $60US per year. The equipment is restricted moreso than IPSC, thus making it cheaper to get into, AFAIK.

Add a double mag pouch and holster to that CZ 75, get the holster course and your good to go. FYI, I've had a lot of luck with my bladetech gear...though slightly more expensive than their competitors.

there more and more IDPA matches around but IPSC still has more. I shoot all 3 and you dont have to spend alot of money to get started pm if you want more info

All three are great shooting and all are shot in your area. All 3 disiplines are shot at The Marksmen Club IDPA and IPSC are very active, and I believe that IPSC is shot at the Ajax club and are making arrangements to start up IDPA as well. For IDPA it is encouraged not to charge for the holster course except to cover cost, some clubs are different then others, but no matter which you choose you will have a great time. For PPC best to get a hold of the CSSA for people int he area who run it, for IPSC refer tot he IPSC Ontario web site and for IDPA, look at the IDPA Canada web-site for an area coordinator to help you out.

I shot the ORA CQB practice with you at Borden. IPSC has production class which is pretty much ruled by CZ's these days. There is a charge for taking the Black Badge course, but considering the training you get out of it makes it more than worthwhile.
Any off the sports you listed + Action Pistol are fun and challenging you'll probably end up trying all of them at some point.

I believe the charge for the BB course is waved if they are under the age of 21 I'm not sure but check into that

Dudley, these competitions all rely on clubs to supply the manpower and range pits. What do the clubs in your area run for events? Seems like that's where you will want to start.

This is something I hear all the time. IDPA is cheaper than IPSC. I call Bulls*&t. IPSC Production division uses alot of the same tactical type pistols as IDPA allows. The same holster and mag pouch used in IDPA can be used in IPSC.

Other then the Black Badge course, where are these huge price differences?

I think this is something spoken about just as a way to get new shooters. If it works,... more power to ya.

Eventually they will find out where the real fun is. :nest::dancingbanana::ar15:

you really got to ask yourself some questions ahead of time...like
If you can say to yourself " I Prefer Shooting Cardboard " ...then IPSC is for you.
If you can say to yourself " I Don't Practice Anymore " ...then try IDPA

Oh I would finish it off.....but you get the idea....

Try finding a match of each one of the disciplines near you, and attend as a spectator...see each one in action.

Seriously, I would like to get in to both IPSC and IDPA.....both have Production class, and any of the shooting competition sports is going to force me to start reloading anyways.....Cowboy Action looks fun too....it will eventually come down to trying out each and finding the one I like to do the best....

There is no Production Class in IDPA. All the pistols used in IDPA except the SA guns would qualify for IPSC Production assuming no work has been done on the gun that would be prohibited under IPSC Production rules. With few modifications allowed in IDPA the guns used are pretty much stock out of the box guns. Most but not all have had trigger jobs done on them and it is common to see different sights on the guns.

Enjoy either I know I do.

Take Care
