Hi all

We discussed this shoot earlier this month here, and it finally happened. Thanks to the PQRA who hosted the event, and thanks to "BoumBoum" here for all the tricks and advice about wind reading, sight adjusting, etc.

How it worked was very good. We have some 600y TR targets, but at all distances. This mean that the further we went, the smaller the aiming circle was getting. Perfect for first-timer like me at long range with the iron sight

Here are the shooters for the day

We started the day at 200 yards to get on paper and get a feel for it. Then we got back to 300y, 4 sighters and 15 for score. Here is me shooting and my happy face when I got a 5.

At the end of the day the markers (cadets hired for the day) wanted to try to shoot a bit. Here is me coaching them a bit at 600y. They all hit the black circle, which I think is good.

And guess what ? This was a friendly match, and to my surprise, I won the "Issued" class. 198 and 13V in the day. We shot 15 at 300 and 400, and 10 at 500 and 600

(ok, the Issued class was me, hacer2 and JCM308, but still.....)

Thanks to the PQRA, and if it happen again next year I'll be there for sure

It was a great experience specialy for guys like me who usualy shoot at around 100 meters. Its nice to see that these old rifles are able to make nice groups even out to 600 with irons.

Looks like lots of fun!

It was belive me. The best thing of all was the people there. This was my first time in this kind of long distance shooting and to be honest i was a little nervous to shhot flyers all day long. I dident know how to shoot in a lay down position, i dident know how to read the wind, i dident even know how use the spoting scope correctly. I basicly knew nothing about shooting from 100 yds and beyond. With the helpfull tips the more experience shooters give to me, i was able to hit the target all day long.

I am very far from being a good shooter and i have very little experience but the poeples there where more than happy to help and pass a bit of there knowledge. These kind of competition / experience are absolutly for everyone. All you need is a milsurp rifle, about 100 rounds and a off day:D

I am looking forward to a future day like this.

If someone can come forward with a solid 10 people turnout, we can get another one done possibly this year, if it can be fitted within existing CFC/PQRA calendar on the Batoche.

Yes, we had lots of fun and it was a nice collective experience where everybody was treated the same and was able to give his maximum for the day and ultimately learned quite a bit w/o learn and drill stress...

Well, we were 7, so I'm sure we could find 3 more to join in the fun......

Hey bob,

Time will tell....

Maybe you could spur it on your side. I am sure you now have a feel for what is the task at hand for a day on the range....

It has been a real pleasure meeting with you all.

Next time, we could also learn and start working with a shooting sling. Amazing what stability a good slinged position can bring to your group on target.

In fesponse to a question about significantly lower scores at 500 and 600, I have to say that we shot 10 on score vs. 15 on score on the two first distances.
