Prairie Fire Classic Multigun - rescheduled to Aug 26\27, 2017

Pre loading of tubes and putting a round on the lifter is a common practice at many matches... If the MD is worried about guys "screwing up" their pre load maybe he should just forbid pre loading all together. People who shoot these matches should at the very least know how to operate their gun(s).

That said... Their match, their rules.

'Was looking fwd to this match, but the new, rescheduled date precludes my ability to attend.

'Hope it's a great success!

Possibly we could banter this around:.. load 5 + 1 at the start,
solves the ghost issue.. wait for the beep ..and then the pump guys have a long tube to work with.. the semi guys are likely restricted to 6 or 7 but they do have the semi-automatic advantage. Loading skills for all and a level start same as US with 8 + 1 (eg Tac)..what's the thoughts on that?

I'd take the no-ghost-loading option over that, 100 times out of 100.

I've shot matches with that start condition and it's biggest impact was to punish guys with properly set up guns. It's usually employed as a "fairness" thing, but it's not fair to the large capacity, match ready shooters.

Last year I saw very few guys really fumble making ready with a ghost load. If they can't get it right in a reasonable time, the SO could instruct them to cease the attempt and go with just the tube and chamber.

I don't think pre-loading tubes and allowing the shooters to load chamber and lifter (if applicable) would slow you down much. Especially if the match briefing were to include a provision for the SO to deal with slow loaders.

I wouldn't worry about trying to keep things even between semis and pumps.... No other 3 gun matches do, at least not in tac ops

I like the 5+1 start... less of an equipment race (3" vs 3.5", ghostload or not...), more of a skill test between shooters. I could be sold on 6+1 too, as most guys can legally accommodate that. If you shoot stateside everyone starts with 8+1 in tac ops. Match savers rock.

And yeah I have never been to a match where preloaded shotguns means a loaded chamber, except the Redneck match in BC, but we can add that to some other questionable safety items for that match...

I struggle with the whole "equipment race" idea. I mean, we're shooting guns, not throwing rocks and hitting with sticks. The nature of weapons has been evolution. I mean, the US just put to sea a new destroyer with a rail gun. 100 miles of range. How long until we're three gunning with rail guns.

Anyway, the divisions keep things on the level. For the super racer, they go to open. Just my two cents

The thing with 5+1 for shotguns is it doesn't make sense unless you carry it into all 3 guns. 5+1 for ARs and 7+1 for pistols follows the same line of reasoning.

3 gun is a skill game AND equipment race in all divisions.

Edit: Also, if the match moving along quickly and smoothly is a priority, 5+1 also means more reloading for pretty much everyone on every stage, and that takes extra time.

Fair points... though I will note that shotgun is still the only gun in the USPSA rules that has a starting capacity limit in Tac Ops. Pistols have a maximum mag length (which equates to 23 rounds of 9mm if you fully utilize it) but riles have nothing. Though honestly for tac ops I think they should... makes the match a little less interesting when everyone runs a 45-60 round mag and you don't have to reload your rifle once in a match haha. I like 5+1 or 6+1 as it makes the match more about your shooting/reloading/stage planning skills than fiddling around trying to jam an extra round in your gun before the signal. Either way its going to be a great match!

Though I am aware these opinions likely put me in the minority haha... especially since our mag capacities are already arbitrarily limited in this country (which is obviously still BS).

There doesn't seem to be any interest in heavy in any of the Saskatchewan matches I've shot, but maybe the match management team would consider it if there is enough interest?

Biggest issue with heavy is that our short bays aren't profiled for it. If there's a big enough interest, we might consider seeking an exemption for the match..

Hi guys and gals, after watching the video and checking a few others out, this just tickles my fancy. I'm in. Question how do I get started? I have lots of shooting experience but more of the traditional hunting and long range stuff. I am horny as hell to get an AR style rifle (so I have done quite of bit of research and looking). I had future plans on purchasing a handgun but have done very little looking. I have limited shotgun experience hunting upland game birds. I currently own a RPR (6.5 Creedmoor), Tikka T3 Lite (308) and a Ruger 10/22. So, I need some gear. Any advice for a guy wanting to start out?
