Pre 64 Winchester 94 Experts unite!

I need to retrack my barrel swap comment. I read somewhere in this land of FRED (frick'in rediculous electronic devices) that
if the top rear barrel and the adjoinning receiver area were stamped (WP), then the barrel was replaced by Winchester.
I as of now don't have much belief in this statement unless proven wrong. I have a couple here and am quite sure the barrels
are original and they too have the (WP) stamped on the same location. It was just posted not that long ago this is the stamp that Winchester does after test firing the firearm. That makes more sense to me. Anyone wish to clarify on this? Muchly appreciated.
Merry Christmas.

You are correct.
I don't know when in the production line the stamps went on but pretty much all pre-64 94 & 64s had barrel & reciever stamped.

According to Madis in the model 94 the WP proof mark is seldom found before serial no. 350,000, after this no.it will be found on bolth barrel and receiver of the majority of arms. For the 94 this translates to about 1906

So if the five didgit serial number 94's go back prior to this, would that indicate
the rifle was sent back to Winchester for a barrel replacement?

Or someone screwed a newer barrel onto it.

Then why the stamp on the receiver.

I'm just trying to get an understanding on these hidden secrets of
these old Winchesters.
Any books out there that would explain the deeds and misdeeds as to what
Winchester did or not do to their levers.
Some on this site have figured out what the markings mean on the old milsurps.

On another note, there is a 1892 Winchester in 25-20 for sale at Granlund......
oooopzs, am eye allowed to do that? Price on their site was misprinted. I believe
eight brown ones for it.

Cheers.

Hell no.
It's a good Short Wood beater.
Personally I wouldn't pay $250 because there's lots around much nicer for only slightly more.

Just to add.
here's a quite nice pre-64 M-94 in MUCH nicer shape at a reasonable price of $350.
