For that type of budget, I would build what I want to my specs.

Could you give me a very rough estimate of what I could get with the gunsmithing included for 2000$?

yup, 308 is all you need for what you ask.
View attachment 35801Rem 700 .308 20 inch HB , Cadex chassis , around 11 lbs. cost about $2000. I'm putting a Carbon fibre barrel on it , to make it lighter.
I have to agree somewhat, I should have just got a good action . What will the Tikka do , that the rem won't? The rem shoots sub moa, I've just started testing loads and have got a few that's 3/4 MOA with a $100 3x9 bushnell banner ,You can do a whole bunch better than this for $2000. That's most of the money in the chassis. Like a four cylinder in a Ferrari.
I'd suggest a tikka tactical or ctr.

The NF is on the way. Out of the Box the Rem shot like crap. And the bolt is way to short , I keep hitting my knuckles on the scope mount. Actually the chassis cost the same sat the gun . $ 2000 is a nice start for a build.

The tikka's tend to shoot 1" groups at 300 yards ( five rounds ), due to a better quality barrel, a stiffer action, an excellent trigger, and the action is smoother.
So they're better, well, everywhere.
The 700 platform has lots of aftermarket stuff, yes, but you will retain absolutely none of your original rifle. There's no point in buying a 700. If you want to build a 700 based rifle, by all means do it from parts.
But which is the better rifle under $2000, no comparison at all.
Wow that's awesome, 1/3 moa factory gun. Cant believe anyone would bother with custom barrels when they can just buy an off the shelf tikka![]()
Your sarcasm is noted.
I've owned several custom rem 700's, the tikka tacticals outshot them out of the box... Just my experience with them. Trued actions, one krieger, the other bartlein.

If your shooting an 1 inch 5 shot groups at 300 yards with your factory out of the box Tikka then yes of course you are going to outshoot many many semi custom 700's. OR is this one those "When I do my part" groups. If you were closer I'd happily take you up on a 1/3 moa challenge with your Tikka. I do my part every time I get behind the trigger and I'd still not be able to keep up to the results you claim.
Pretty consistent.
I'd say 80% of the time.
Hell, I've got several 1" ten round groups at 300 with the .223 tac. Outstanding rifles, but bare in mind this is with lots of load development, and I could be considered as experienced driving a precision rifle. I'd not fear the challenge...
Probably best we are too far apart or one us would be losin a gun over this haha
All in good fun...
I'm skeptical but that's what's great about the internet, everyones an expert and unsubstantiated claims of accuracy are the norm. You don't post under the name Caramel as well do you?
A custom in 260 rem, 260 ackley, 6.5x284 or 6.5x47 Lapua is what I would go for. They're all good for moose. Even the 6.5x47 can shoot a 140 gr pill at 2850+ with reloader15. Sure 300wm will get the job done, but it really isn't that fun to shoot compared to the 6.5's, not to mention how much cheaper your components will be. Also, all of the above mentioned calibers have great brass available.
I was in the same boat as you not too long ago and my 300wm is being built into a 6.5x284. I also shoot a 6.5x47, I really like the 47!
As far as actions, to stay inside 2k I would go with a savage model 12 repeater and rifle basix sav2 trigger or a tikka ( I haven't owned one, but I like the ones I've had the chance to fondle)
Then you'll maybe need a chassis or stock depending on what model you get.
Thank you, the 6.5x284 is really peeking my interest. I had a chance to handle the savage long range hunter in 6.5x284, and I was really impressed with it at its price point.
Be aware that if you shoot a lot, you will be re barreling/ chambering often.
900 rounds is the average barrel life. I know I usually go through a minimum of 300 rounds just dialling a load in, doesn't leave you with much if you shoot regularly.
