Precision rifle build! (.338 LM - Almost done New pics on p. 7)

Started loading up some rounds last night. You don't realize how big everything is on the .338 LM compared to a .308 Win or .223 until you stand them up side by side...

This is the "baby" standard 250 gn Scenar next to a .308 Win case. I wonder how much bigger the 300 gn SMK is...

Is it me or was the stock painted black? Also, any word on the trigger he set you up with?

Finally, I hear these VBull magazines are all the rage - what's so good about them?

Real curious to see how that thing groups! :)

Only range I would bother shooting this at regularly would be Gennesse but if I am going to drive that far - I know a couple of good spots closer by where I can stretch her legs. Yeah, I had Lyle paint the stock black (I didn't want two rifles with OD stocks). I haven't asked what the trigger assembly is that he installed... Vbull Mag systems are popular but very pricey because they allow you to use AI mags (AICS for 308 and AI for .338) which are considered the best mags in their price range. As well, Ed Begg is in Canada so you are supporting a CAD made product. I have never used a Badger M5 but Lyle told me that they rattle around a bit; the Vbulls have a very tight fit and don't rattle at all. He also swapped the bolt handle from a Badger to a TPS bolt knob - I don't notice a whole lot of difference. Lyle did mention to me that many of his customers do comment on the rifle when they see it so it must be more striking in person then in the pics...

No no, the rifle pics look good - seem to do it justice.

Thanks for that tidbit on the VBull - AI rifles are well made and their price reflects that, so their magazines must be good in any price range! The rattling must be a problem in single column magazines, because my friend's Savage 10FCP (similar stock as you) has a magazine that locks in real nice once it "snaps" in. All in all, you have a very class looking setup...

And, hey, how do you get your front lens cap to stay forward like that?? Doesn't it flip open all the way rearward? Good as an improvised rain guard...

I can't actually wait to see this rifle in person. The rattling in the M5 is supposed to be from the tolerances of the magwell on the Badger (Both Badger and Vbull use AI mags). The Savage is a whole different beast. I don't know how he got the lens cap to stay forward like that -- must be some Gunsmith magic.

Glock, that is a great looking rig.

The real fun will come when your lb container of powder empties every time you go to the range.

Enjoy a very nice boomer.

Jerry

PS the Vbull system also has the mags rattle a bit.

I think I am set for now (21 lb and 500 Scenar Lapua bullets). I don't think I will be putting more than a 100 rounds or so per visit... Only so much concussion blasts a man can take. My Vbull 308 doesn't rattle at all, I will let you know if the .338 does though.
