Preferred bullit weight for IPSC?

HI; Had a guy that over loaded a Thomson Contender 357 mag cause it got better accuracy. That was fine for three month then the rear sight went into the roof! Never saw him again.

I do. Specifically for increased slide speed.....
really? for minor? you would be the first person I have heard use them on purpose.

OP: Since you are shooting a shadow 1, if you decide to go 147gr keep in mind that you may need to change your front sight depending on what your gun came with otherwise it will shoot high. Usually you do need to, but there are some versions where the sight is an ok height over the years.

I've seen factory 115 gr fail to make power factor during testing several times and resulted in zero score for the shooter. Never seen it happen with factory 124 or 147.

I've only tryed 115,they shoot about six inchs high.
I'm gonna see if I can get a box of 124,but choices are limited around here.
I don't think the heavier bullits will drop that much ,anyway.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with adjustable sights.
115 shooting 6" high?

Given this, and your other thread, you may want to try getting some proper instruction. Yes, there could be something strange with your gun, but I'd really see about instruction. At the very least, get a highly skilled shooter to shoot your gun and see what happens.

This is my third CZ shadow. My other two were quite accurate,Thats why I got another one.
The other two shot POA/POI.

I'm pretty sure it's not me,

I was aiming at the bottom of a 6 inch circle, and all rounds hit the top.

30 rnds fired ,with gun rested on a bench and 30 rnds while standing.
All rnds were in the same area.

It may not be you, but I'd still get someone experienced to shoot it. I coach shooters at my range, and I've seen plenty of funny shooting. Only once was an issue attributed to the sights. Yours may have a wrong sight mounted at the factory, so compare it to another Shadow and see if something looks different. Good luck!

I'll take some measurements Sunday, when I get home.
There's no other shadows at my range so comparing is out.

I'll post up a few pics tomorrow, 15 and 25 yards with 115 and 124 factory ammo.

I'll also include a target from my S&W 357, to show that I can shoot :)

Good evening,
I went to the range with my neighbor who is not a shooter but wanted to give a try.
I loaded 3 mags, properly identified:
- 115 from a known manufacturer,
- 124 and 147 from a reloading company.
It was clearly noticeable the snapping was decreasing accordingly.

I'll clarify:

I've found some people have a very sensitive touch, that makes them shoot different pistols *very* differently. Even the snappy 115 grain bullet can induce shooting errors in people. So from my point of view, no need to post pics of targets. Get someone else to shoot your gun. Someone who is very experienced. If they are roughly on target, then it's all you. :)

I'll see who I can find,to try that out.
Thanks

Pick a load, shoot it, get familiar with your gun and how it shoots. You will do better with this approach then tinkering with loads. Once you are accustomed to what your gun is doing it will make zero difference.

Went out yesterday with some 115 and 124.
124 not so good

At 10 yards the 115 are closer to POA/POI.
Back out to 25 yrds and they're shooting about 5 inches high.

Anyway I can live with that, for now.

Surprising that you have such a big difference in POI at such relatively short distances. Neither my Shadow or either of my two Shadows 2's or any of my other handguns do. Regardless of the bullet weight.

Shoot whatever works for you. But if you ever get serious about the sport guessing you'll likely end up reloading and shooting either 124 or 147 gr bullets. Very few experienced IPSC compeitors shoot 115. To snappy and takes to long to get back on target.
