Pressure signs in low pressure rounds

Cheers. Thanks guys! I’m liking reloading nearly as much as shooting so far. It’s fun developing loads and much nicer shooting ammo you handcrafted over factory stuff

I’m using these loads in an Enfield and a S&W pre-victory revolver with 6” barrel if that helps at all

I'll sound like an old fart, but it might not be that wise to load up to what your personnal revolver can take, even if you don't plan to use it on an older, more fragile piece. At some point in the future, 38sw ammos will be used in a 38sw firearm, and the kaboom can happen. By definition, people don't plan to have accidents.

You can load 38spl cases to 357Mag pressure if you know you're gonna use them in a 357 firearm, but it's not a good idea. There's probably more revolvers blown up by 357 ammos disguised as 38spl than people are willing to admit. No problem with the opposite though, load a 357 to 38spl specs and everyone will come out with both hands.

Good point.

I stopped using 38 Spl cases for 357 loads for exactly that reason.

OP, if you have one of those old Saturday night chromed break open guns in 38S&W, having hotter ammo around is an accident waiting to happen.

personally, I don't shoot those old chromed pieces of junk. I am afraid someone might see me....

Haha. No all I have is the two war pieces. I’ll probably never own a cheap .38 S&W I mostly collect milsurps so the only ones I see my self adding are a Webleky Mk4 and maybe a victory revolver.

Matt, I reload for my S&W Victory model, chambered in S&W .38.

My load is: 2.3gr of W231 under a 160gr lead round nose bullet from OmaProducts.

OAL is 1.150.

It's a mild load. I get good results at 25 yards, even with those crappy sights!

According to the Speer #9 manual, if using Unique and a 158gr round, the min load is 2.8 gr, and the max is 3.1.

I’ll agree with you the sights are absolutely atrocious. On mine, in DA you have to start the trigger pull and move the hammer to see the rear sight. Ie when not cocked the hammer covers the rear sight.

My current load is 2.3 gr of true blue over a 200 gr SWC at 1.175 OAL.

Lyman calls for up to 2.6 gr for a 195 gr bullet. I might push my load up to 2.45. The recoil at 2.3 gr was very light
