Price estimate for Norinco M14.

And that’s what is attractive about a Norc. You get or I should say you used to get a decent gun for a steal that you could have fun cleaning up to the point it would be reliable. Mutts make great dogs but you can’t make them something they aren’t (valuable). >1K for one maybe, from me? I think not. In truth having owned and built several LRBs I have no want of a Chicom M1a at any price. I was never in the Red Army so no nastalgia for me there. If FALs were an option that would be something else but a Chinese one? No. That’d be like two boys kissing in church. Just wrong!

We will have to agree to disagree that an m14 assembled with good parts on whatever receiver is a mutt. I simply disagree with your views on the subject.

several of the USA's well known and widely revered m14 afficionados have chosen Norinco receivers to work with..... including smith enterprise..... oprods too. Average going rate for a serviceable polytech or norinco receiver from product imported before Clinton's ban.... were selling for 850.00 USD not even 10 years ago. That's for a stripped receiver. More recently a pre ban stripped receiver was listed and sold on gun broker for 1500 usd.
A dimensionally correct, forged nroinco/polytech receiver built up with premium dimensionally correct parts is "equally" worth just as much as it's springfield armory m1a counterpart.... perhaps more even.

For those of us in the know...... it's not even worth debating the issue.

I sold mine for $540.... I think... I can’t remember. But I put more money into it than I got out of it. Lots of work done to the rifle. I myself like the sleeper look so mine was done up and she shoots very well. Just taking it apart people would realize parts were replaced with better and work was done to lap a forged bolt to 60 - 70% lug contact. I guess when the new owner goes to shoot it and he sees he gets 2” out of Federal Power-Shok he will know work was done and that he got a very good deal. The USGI trigger alone took the thing from a 8lb pull down to 3.5lbs.

The problem is when you hit prices like that, people could get a basic synthetic Springfield for $1900 new on a sale day. Cheaper used. You yourself know what to look for that tells you if it’s a good quality build M305 or if someone is just blowing smoke. The average person who just wants to shoot will always opt for the Springfield when prices are in that high of an amount simply because they know Springfield is a good name with warranty and they know what they’re getting. Even myself I think I’d opt for the Springfield because I know I would have a hell of a time selling a built up Norinco vs a bone stock Springfield. For myself, I always buy guns knowing I’m probably going to sell it later.

I hear you there and you aren't wrong.
I think most folks here on CGN that use the EE and have been around awhile know who the guys are that have a solid reputation in canada for building these rifles. There's not many of us.
At the end of the day , if the rifle is built by a "professional" with dimensionally correct components "and" it shoots reliably and very accurately ..... in my opinion there is no difference in "value" between a built up rifle on a good norinco receiver VS a factory built springfield equally equipped with equal reliability and accuracy. Just my opinion, not preaching my thoughts at anyone.

My Winchester 101 probably works every bit as well as #### Cheney’s Perazzi, but it’s not that valuable a gun. Maybe if I shot a lawyer in the face with it lol. In the end the market determines value more than anyone’s opinions.

I would never buy a Springfield. The cast receivers turn me off. That and all the quality control issues. I would take a dimensionally correct Norinco receivered, built up rifle any day. Though, that's just me.

There are lots of folks out there who just need to spend the money to get the name that makes them feel good, whether or not the name and/or $$ translates to anything practically meaningful or not. There is no shortage of city people walking around in $800 Canada Goose parkas, for example, for that 1 minute walk from their heated urban assault vehicle to the grocery store entrance. To each their own I guess.

As someone who has lived in Winnipeg, I would have loved to have a Canada Goose parka in the city in January. Lol. In the CF there was a saying, “Any idiot can be uncomfortable”! That said I’d get the real thing, not a Chinese knockoff.

I have a Canada Goose Parka and my ass is nice and warm at -40, Has nothing to do about me feeling good and more about not freezing my balls off when I walk from my Garage to my truck that I remote started 20 minutes prior !

Take it easy - point is not that nobody needs a Canada Goose parka, but that few people who do buy them actually need them except to tell other people how great they are. If you like a parka in -40, good for you. I deal with harsh winters too, and yeah a parka is nice sometimes, but I find many layers of much cheaper stuff works just as well most of the time and I get to keep the money I didn't spend on a parka for other stuff. YYMV.

Cheers,

I just looked at the price of a Canada Goose Parka..."By The Holy Nemesis Of The Caramel!!!!!". About 1K for a Parka! LD, you're correct, I could dress just as warm, AND, get that modestly priced Bolt Gun I've been wanting. I'll bet I'd have enough left over for an extra large pizzas too!

Regarding the topic at hand just goes to show how wed people can become to a brand/idea. I've owned a few Norinco's, and I've been quite happy with how they function. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a quality Rifle built on a Norinco Receiver.

In a twist, China has stopped imports of canada goose parkas in retaliation for the arrest of the Huawei CFO. Now JT will ban semi-autos after his next majority to stick it to China...

Thanks canada goose. #whiners

I have a stock M14s in chu from 2007 marking run when they were all the rage and cheaper. Think that I will hold onto it and put not another dime in any Chinese M14. Sad to see the new ones have become total junk and dangerous. Hope the OP gets his money.

I think the other two issues that are having a negative impact on prices for semis are the economic and political outlook in Canada at the moment. I think a lot of people are having a rough time financially making them less likely to part with much money for toys. Add to this the threat of a ban and more people see less reason to pull the trigger on a pricey gun just now.
