A guy who I traded a stock Series '70 1911 for his 4" S&W 29-2 would like to buy it back. I've added Miculek grips, a narrow smooth trigger, a quality leather holster and a few speed loaders to the package. It's still in VG+-Exc condition overall and I've never put a .44 Magnum round thru' it, only .44 Spl.

What's a fair price?

The big S&W 44 Mags seems to be going fairly cheap these days. Add to that the maybe Trudeau handgun ban. And the current state of the economy. And that it is 12-6. And that new S&Ws D/As seem to be awful cheap. Just saying?

If it's a 4" (12.6) you'd be lucky to get $500 out of it right now. I think your best bet is taking off all the stuff you added and sell separately.

if a 12.6 gun... eventually it WILL be given away,.. to the metal grinder. I just laugh at people asking big money for a prohib. It a terrible investment isn't it? And I have my 12.6 so I'm not just a hater.. LoL :) I understand the frustration of prohib owners though.

Maybe blasphemy but a 12(6) holder could buy it, get a longer barrel installed, get it reregistered 'restricted', and save it from it's inevitable end if left with the 4" barrel on it.

Just look in any shop like Ellwoods, Gobles and you see all kinds of old revolvers going for cheap because of 12.6 restriction. IMOP though when the baby boomers and the generation behind them stop buying, the gun market especially revolvers will be worth little. I see younger shooters (VERY FEW) at the club and many don't even own a revolver, just plastic guns, throw in governments around the world trying to disarm and ban makes it even worse. My gun club looks more like a grey, white beard collection of old bikers lol. The millennials in my family all think my guns are dangerous and want nothing to do with them. I see this in the same as guys who collect muscle cars, old Harleys etc when we stop buying you won't be able to give the stuff away because new generations just don't care about this stuff. I see guns on EE which sometimes I think wow that will sell fast, but know they linger on EE and get reduced in price unless its a model 29-2 or something of that sort. Even at the local gun shops every once in awhile you get an estate gun collection coming in because nobody wanted them in the family. Just my 2 cents.

It's not a model that I've followed for value but I'm guessing that a nice rebarrel would turn it into a $1000 gun.
Is it Charleston Murray that people recommend for S&W work?

1. Economics - Young shooters are fewer and farther between because most don’t have the disposable income of those past 50, especially in your area. Also partially explains the plastic gun/9mm trend amongst the demographic.

2. Does your club run any youth programs? My club runs 10m AP, Air Rifle, and youth biathlon. We have lots of young shooters stick around after they age out of the programs.

3. Sounds like an education issue.

4. Go back to point #1. Those paying off school, paying down houses, and raising young families are often financially stretched without adding muscle cars. Give them 20-30 years. As for Harley’s, well, everyone knows they’re crude pieces of trash and those with class ride a Triumph!

Fact is you’re right about 12.6. Every year that passes there are fewer potential buyers meaning prices are headed only one direction.

just picked up a model 29-2 6 inch with display box and all the goodies, I don't think the gun has ever been fired, literally no ring around cylinder, there is not a mark on the blueing, spotless for a $1000 which to me is a steal when you are paying around $800 for a glock
