Price gouging

I'm not referencing any specific businesses or individuals but as a long time buyer / seller the practice is indeed very annoying to the knowledgeable consumer. The good news is that it's an easy fix: just spend your money elsewhere!

Unscrupulous people / businesses can ask whatever price they want : smart consumers don't buy from those characters.

Exactly. No sense getting bent out of shape about it.
Stuff will usually sell either way. Lots of guys out there with more money than brains!

How would you know if one dealer is buying from another dealer??????
You don't, Yes some prices at auction ate silly, but that is free enterprise.
I had a fellow say that if I bought ammo when cheap, I should sell at that same price, to him.

Some dealers buy from other dealers because they can’t afford buying the whole lineup of guns. Also some brands restrict how many dealers in a certain area.

Mfg don’t supply retailers goods to sell to public to build up consumer loyalty so retailers can sell to another retailer to gouge people. It’s not good business practises it’s shady as #####. I’m good for two years but all the rats involved in this will never see a dime from me.

SFRC doing auctions , stuff going for 20 to 40 percent over retail plus they get the selling commission as well plus taxes. Varget going for 85 to 100 per pound plus selling commission 15 percent and taxes and shipping. Bricks of 22 ammo selling for way more than you can buy it at Cabellas. People get caught up in the frenzy, but I guess its a free market system. The problem is that stuff wont be on the shelves at a reasonable price if they can get 40 percent more doing auctions.

I'm not sure which business the OP is taking about as there are lots of auction companies but SFRC Auctions is a totally separate company with different ownership than SFRC. 90% of what is in an auction is from customers and other dealers (lots of dealers send in used firearms, discontinued items, etc), the other 10% is dead stock. I'm not sure why people think it's all from SFRC. With the prices being the way they are, people who had stock piled reloading supplies, ammo and surplus guns are dropping it off by the truck load as they know they will sell for good money. Pretty much all the powder, primers and used presses for the last 6 months has come from one customer getting out of reloading. I can assure you that neither company buys from other dealers to resell things. Feel free to pm me if anyone has any questions as I prefer not to post about auctions on here as it's not part of CGN.

Edit: Someone just told me who it is.

Things are only going to get harder to find and more expensive. During the Gulf war certain components were impossible to find and the reason was that they were being used to make munitions for the war. If I recall Re-15 was one such item.

How would anyone know it's a separate company? It looks a lot like your logo. You should copyright the name and logo.

If you think he has nothing to do with the auction site you are very naive. This is the same guy who regularly runs illegal lotteries. If all you needed to do to avoid scrutiny was offer people buying tickets some insignificant item then gun clubs and charities throughout the country wouldn't bother getting lottery licenses.

I wanted to put one one of those sticker/target draws for our gun club. I started looking into the lottery rules and was like nope. The last thing I want is ###### Gun Club hosts illegal lottery in the newspaper.

I don't care if a retailer auctions off his own stock, or sell stickers or popcorn, but when a retailer is buying out other retailers to put those items up in an auction for personal gain, that is the issue, large brick and mortar store gets in a few hundred pounds of powder and a few thousand primers and he's buying up the stock and gouging through his online auction........2 weeks shipping roughly since cabelas had H4350 in stock, so in another week and a half I bet we see H4350 in the auction along with all the primers he purchased from another retailer in alberta......I hope I am wrong, but I do know he wiped the other store out of primers, got that info first hand from a very reputable store clerk..........

Could someone PM me the name, since people refuse to just say it? I assumed it was Extreme Range Outfitters out of S'toon, based on the goofy high prices I see, but the "along with all the other primers he purchased from another retailer in Alberta" post above suggests this is an AB shop.

Kind of sounds like Extreme Range Outfitters.

I don’t really believe in the concept of “gouging” as far as economics goes. On the other hand, buying up everything so you can put it in the auction is BS, gatekeeping people out of shooting sports by making components expensive just to make some money is hurting our sport. Don’t even get me started on instructors charging ridiculous prices for the CFSC.

True, extreme range has lost my respect.. they were selling Winchester shotgun primers only 100 per customer for $9.99, then a month later my boy was going to Saskatoon so I thought I'd get him to grab me more 209 primers.. they at that time, would only sell 25 primers per customer and wanted $5.00 for 25.. I told them that I will not bend over and get it dry from them, told them they can keep them..
Im starting to see their dirty tricks and think I will be shopping elsewhere where they have a little more integrity.

Think I will haul another load of powder and primers to the XRO auction. The prices are great. But the entertainment value is priceless !!!

I've bought and sold several batches of stuff at Extreme Range Outfitters. I think they're a wonderful service.
Sold stuff at good prices and low commission.
And bought a few things at what I thought was quite reasonable prices, and some other items at somewhat high price when I couldn't find it elsewhere and needed it. I didn't mind paying the top bid for those items.
And I also passed up a lot of bids on stuff that was selling too high. For me.
That's how markets work. No need to whine if your pockets aren't deep enough.

Some of those whiners might have deep pockets, but short reach ;)
