I grabbed an SKS years ago when they were still $200.
Now i'm looking for a quality (surplus) bolt action, think I'm going to go for a Yugo or Swedish Mauser. What price range should I be looking at for those?
See on Mil Surp. rifles on E.E. Still there.
Can't go wrong with a nice Swedish Mauser (M96 or M38). You can still find them for around $700-900 currently. Some guys are trying to push $1100 or $1200 if they got a nice one but I would see if they come down because that is pretty high even for a nice example.
You can still find decent Yugo Mausers for around the same range. They are another great milsurp rifle and great to carry in the bush.
My personal preference...a Swedish M38. But the Swede Mausers are going up in price quick.
Am I deluded to think there is not going to be some buyer's remorse in the next 12 months at these prices or is the same economic model as $1,000,000 Vancouver fixer upper bungalows. Or maybe it's all just "funny money".
What do folks think of a $900 SKS? I saw one yesterday - to be fair it was an unrefurbed '49 in excellent condition, but still - $900?
M38 is also what I think I have narrowed it down to. I like the shorter OAL and have heard good things about these Swedish rifles and the 6.5*55 round.
It’s sad but milsurps are a rich collector’s game now. The days of getting a low cost but good quality rifle and ammunition to develop your musketry skills are over.
There’s still some good deals to be had on sporterized rifles if you shoot cast bullets.
True, cheap and plentiful surplus ammo is also a thing of the past....
Might have been the one I checked over yesterday as well at me LGS. It was a Tula made unit which be desirable for SKS fans. Nice rifle, but the greed machine is in full swing these days on all goods & services. Fookin' overcrowded we be.

What is a bit scary is "the past" is only 2 or 3 years ago!
.303 British has been scarce for a while longer then that.... nothing lasts forever.
Want to increase the value of your milsurp? Dewat it. Like the MP 40 on E.E. for 6 grand, Yes, you read that right $6,000!
I know, I was counting the zeros also, to make sure I got it right.
