Training new shooters is not where we should be scrimping...

A new shooter could pay 100.00 and get black badge training in Ontario without becoming a member? especially if s/he just wants the training to feel more comfortable with holster competition and not really participate in Ontario... or is that a break down into elements just to help explain costs??
if I remember correctly (and i'm sure you will correct me if I'm wrong) you have 1 year to shoot Qualifier to receive full black badge until then ur provisional... So breaking it down like that would give the impression that a person who was willing to take the course say in January 2007 would have until February 2008 to shoot that qualifier.... if s/he actually decides to of course.... then why pay for 2007??
you may say why would anyone do that?? well that's not the point ... I could take the training this year not pay membership fees... be allowed to have more than 5 rounds in my mag when I'm at my local range ( our club limits rounds in mag unless practicing IDPA, PPC or IPSC) because I completed the BB course and if I like the sport enuf I'll join up in 2008..... but most importantly I can now take that traing and shoot IDPA , CDP, PPC, CAS or USPSA knowing i'm comfortable with holster drawn sports...
really you should only say price is 160.00 and not break it down because that gives me the impression I can haggle... hey mr. Trainer do you think I can pay you only 25.00??? or my membership arguement... course fee is course fee no haggling there ... unless Quigley you are open to negotiations??
R.O. courses in essence are free 35.00 for 1st timers and free for refreshers ( diffence is you don't get a shirt or overlays). and our Futures Program in Ontario free to anyone under 18??or 21... So arguement on skimping on training doesn't hold water because if the training is given in a competent manner price is meaningless.
I think what Madness was saying the cost of joining may seem too prohibitive to new comers... not the cost of a round golf or bullets or equipment.... you have a new guy show up at a match and say I really would like to "try" this sport out... and the first thing out of our mouths is well you need to spend 160.00 for training before you can do anything..... that scares them off right away because they are already doing the math.... equipment 2000+ course and travel expenses... hell I may not even like the sport or have time (we all know they'll be hooked after their first real match) but it's that barrier we need to overcome... pay the instructor, pay the course fee.... first year membership free..... 100.00 always sounds better than 160.00 ...
like some professions do .. first sample is free cause after that your hooked and will be a customer for life...
think about it how many new members fall off after taking their BB?? lack of funds, lack of time or cost of travelling to a good outdoor match... lowering the startup costs benefits us all....
Think outside the box.... it's a numbers game the more members you have the more revenue you generate.... and the quality of training isn't the issue...
sorry it was so long winded
