So I'm thinking these are the prices you can sell a Mosin at today. To me the value is the sell price, not what you paid or would like to buy at, what you can sell at. Forget all matching cause I ain't seen a real one yet, I'm sure there are some...
200.00 for any 91/30 dated after 1930
300.oo for most ex-dragoons unless very old or Sestroryetsk
400 for am M38 or M44
400.00 for a M91 Tula, Izzy, NEW, maybe Remington, but don't know
500.00 for M91 Sestroryetsk, any dated pre 1910, maybe Remington,
+++ for any Finns
Any thoughts. Am I off, as I love buying them?
My opinion as a mosin collector at the market rate these days:
For starters, all the $200 mosin dealers are sold out of anything decent. Most places are charging $225+ now. Also, the 1930 date means NOTHING. There is a thought out there among some that dragoon production ended in 1930. Not true. Dargoons were phased out slowly from 1930 to 1933, with fewer dragoon features appearing toward the end. Some pure dragoons are found dated 1932, so non-transitional dragoons were made in ever smaller numbers for at least 3 production years.
Hex receivers continued in use until mid-1936 and generally there is no observed price difference between, say, a 1935 made 91/30 and a 1930 made 91/30. The earlier the receiver date, if the rifle is in nice shape, there can be a slight premium. Some markings like Cossak marked refurb 91/30's can command a substantial premium.
M44's are interesting, everyone is asking $450+, but I don't see russian M44's actually selling for much over $350. Average M38's are about the same, but M91/38's are selling $650-700 and non-russian M44's are selling in that range as well (for example, unissued polish M44's). M38's with as-new bores are also selling for a premium, around $450-500.
M91's are all over the map. For reasons I can't explain, we have a glut of new england westinghouse finn M91's in Canada and they seem to bring $300-350. Tikka and VKT M91's are selling for around $350-400. About the same for Remington finns or early Russian M91's that are finn capture marked. There are LOTS of these somewhat common M91's listed on the EE for $600-650 that keep being bumped and bumped, they don't sell. I guess they see a rarer M91 sell for that and think they have gold when they really don't (?). The rarer M91's: Chat, Sestroretsk, and M24'3 are selling for $600+. Depends what it is.
As for actual finnish models (M27,28,28-30,39, etc.) This is a whole other subject. Think $800 and up.
