Primer Pocket Crimping in Hornady Ammo

I reload for .308. I've been re-using Norma, Federal, and PMC brass, and most recently, had a couple hundred Hornady match grade stuff from a rifle course I took.

I discovered that the primer pockets are crimped military style. I was not expecting this and as a new re-loader, was a little stuck (as was my first primer I tried to insert haha). I tried reaming and uniforming, all to no avail. What finally did the trick was a press-mounted swager I borrowed from a friend. Has anyone else run into primer pocket crimping in non-military cases?
 
S&B in 9MM and 38spl cases seem to have a crimp on them. I toss any I find now in the scrap box. It just isn't worth the time and effort for me.

Yep hornady superformance .223 cases crimped. Grabbed a Lyman primer pocket swag tool and cordless drill and a hour of my time to clean out a hundred cases or so. PITA but why waste the brass!

First time I have heard this about S&B 9mm, and I have loaded a lot of it.
 
Anyone know why primer pocket crimping has proliferated in the last year or so?

I find that even Win and Fed 223 brass is crimped these days. I'm now outsorting Norinco and Rem brass to load first before I have to start swaging the other brands. Haven't run into crimped non-military 9mm brass as yet but that would be a real pain.
 
So far just various .223 including Federal AE and all 5.56 brass for me. But that RCBS set up works great and averages 5 seconds per case so the extra time and effort really isn't significant even for the occasional military 9mm case.
 
I was wondering why the primer pockets looked different on these Hornady rounds.

I picked up a couple boxes of 220gr 308 Hornady and the primers are crimped.

I just used a press mounted swager (RCBS) and they're all good to accept a new primer now.:d
