primer pockets

A buddy just gave me 100 Winchester brass. They appear to either have a slightly smaller primer pocket or have a bit of a crimping ring around the primer pocket. I was able to chamfer and clean out 50 of them to the point where the primers went in normally. After sizing and cutting them, is the small primer pocket just an inconveniance that may take some reaming or are there other considerations I need to think about? Like I said, on about 50 of them, I was able to get the primer to seat with normal pressure on 80% of them and witha little coaxing for the other 20% but in the end, they appear to be seated normally.

The primers are crimped... That's all.

I have thousands of 'em on hand so I use a Dillon Swager to remove the crimp.

Hmmmm, so the crimping ring is part of the primer? Why would I be having problems getting primers into some of the pockets but not others? I damaged 3 primers to the point where I will have to toss them.

I am assuming that since the primers went into place and the bullets have been FL sized and cut, they are ok to load up? New to the relaoding thing and have not come across this before with any of my once fired commmercial brass.

take a deburring tool and give the pocket a quick twist to round off that sharp edge and then they work fine. That just happened to a buddy and I showed him how to fix it because it happened to me a while back.

I did that and some were an easy fit, some were still pretty tight. I might just get a Lyman reamer and do the other 50 and save myself the hassle.
