The Marine Sargeant Major had good reason to hate the Navy since they buggered off leaving the Marines holding the bag without the desperately needed supplies that the Navy took along when they fled the "slot". Not very sporty at all.
The claim: "10 small rifle primers have the explosive force (energy) of a hand grenade".
Grenades scare the #### out of me, primers do not...not even 100.
Mr. Grenade is not your friend...Mr. Primer is, how else can you have a happy day at the range without Mr. Primer?
Having thrown a few grenades back in the day I can attest that they are far more explosive than 10 small primers. When a grenade goes off in a trench and lifts you off the ground when you're lying next to it its pretty fricken skookum... ;-)
Don't drop them then...
The grenades we had during the Viet Nam war had a primer to light the fuse on the detonator.

In high school in the 1960s we lived next to a Marine Sargent Major who brought home the upper portion of the grenade pictured above.
He was teaching his two sons how to throw grenades in the back yard. Everything was going fine until the detonator didn't spit along its length when it exploded. When the detonator went off it came uncrimped and flew between the three of them and hit their sliding glass door behind them leaving a spider web cracks an BB size hole in the glass. And this ended the training session on how to throw a grenade when the Marines wife started yelling at her husband.
Any other CHIMO's going to chime in?
Find a copy of Hatchers Notebook and read the bit about the worker who was shaking a bucket of primers in an ammunition plant.

I learned a long time ago not to try to persuade peoples opinions at a gun counter. If you're ever caught arguing with an idiot, you will always lose.
