PRIMERS at 500 per K

Every time I bought primers I thought they were too much. $157/5000 shipped was the last bunch of magnum rifle primers, yes that was a long time ago. It always seems like too much, but if you bite the bullet and buy a big supply, one day you will look clever.

Prices come and go. The first pound of powder I bought was 20 bucks and primers were 3 per hundred fourty years ago. Bullets were 20. Brass was stupid, it was cheaper to buy factory ammo. RCBS dies were 68 bucks. Then powder went to 30 bucks a pound but bullets dropped to 14 per 100. Primers went up, but it wasn't a big deal. Then Stalker's opened in Saskatoon and we decided that 14 bucks was the new normal for powder. All of a sudden brass was 12 bucks a bag for magnums but we could order it from the states for 8. Then RCBS dies were 30 and brass was 50, then 100. WTH? Powder shot to 50 bucks a pound, but that didn't last. Primer shortages came and went; it wasn't that long ago when people were losing their #### when 215Ms hit 100 a brick retail, but it wasn't that long before 137 a case of 5000 with free shipping was there for the asking. When powder was at 160 a keg for Hogdgons guys #####ed about them not offering free shipping at 21 pounds. When humanson was damn near giving away IMR powder, they #####ed about 135 dollar shipping charges, but sort of over-looked that it was the same for 400 pounds. I begged people to piggy-back on my orders with few takers. One guy who happens to be a member here took that advice and ordered a pile on his own. Met him at the range and he's still shooting 11 a pound powder.

If you're going to do this; get out front like a lead sled dog and see things clearly. For the back dog the view never changes. If they have a lot buy a lot. If they have a little, buy it all. If they have a little and the prices are stupid don't buy anything. If you have nothing you're screwed. Better luck next time.

Tried finding cough syrup around my city of 100,000 + people today in Alberta...non existant!!!...anybody got some Buckley’s to trade for 100 primers?...hahaha

Norma is building a new ammo plant just outside Savannah Ga on I-16 next door to Daniel Defense, which is to open in 23'.

Norma Precision is already hiring hardworking Georgians on our coast, and this new facility will support healthy communities across the Savannah area,” Kemp said in the release.

The company announced plans in April to relocate its headquarters from Tampa, Florida, to Savannah. Those operations will be consolidated into the new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution center. The expansion will increase the company’s employment in the Savannah area to 600, with about 470 of those jobs being new, a company spokeswoman said.

Seems some people don't understand or like a free market. People can sell for what price they want and buyer can choose to buy at that price if they wish.

If someone buys something cheap and then sells it when the price goes up that's called an investment.

So my parents bought their house in 1983 it cost 55k right now it is worth 460k in order for him not to be an "#######" he has to sell it for no more then 60Kish as to not profit off his investment.

Who cares what you paid for the primers. That's not relevent because if they were bought 20 years ago they were 20$ if bought 2 years ago they cost 100$. What matters is what they are selling at now. If they sell at 1$ each they are worth 1$ each

If someone wants to be "fair" and sell below market value as they don't want to make money off something. That's fine too
.it's a free market. Someone may want 1$ each and the next guy may only want .10$ each. It's upto the buyer to find the deals he thinks are good.

This isn't gouging as it's not food/water or shelter as much as we like shooting it's not a necessity to have 1000's of loaded rounds of ammo. Even 50 rounds would feed your family for years.

In the SFRC auction that ended a couple days ago, bricks of remington 9 1/2 LR primers went for $260 to 285/1000, + 28% taxes and premiums. A brick of large pistol primers went for $245.

It seems they are going to dribble your primers on to the market...$mart.

Mine aren't listed yet, they told me it would 3 weeks or so and I dropped them off on the 15th. Probably be another week. The only instructions I gave were to not sell them by the case; which lead to a few "Guy would have to sell his truck to buy cases" jokes. ;)

Crazy but more than likely true...I doubt my old Lariat hunting truck with 35 inchers on it is worth as much as a couple cases of CCI 250's today.

A rancher from Alberta said, "I get in my pick-up and I have to drive for a couple of hours to get the the far side of my spread".

An Ontario farmer overheard this and said, "yeah I used to have a crappy pick-up like that too."

The world is upside down. I suppose that it might seem like profiteering to some, but when I have more primers than I can shoot in my life and a few hundred dollars worth of them ( my cost) could potentially buy a new sled or really nice used Harley or a perfectly useable hunting truck, a modest plains game hunt, or a kickass rifle I might as well go for it.

I have a buddy sitting on a few thousand primers... he loads about 100 to 200 a year now lol.
Told him to cash in before new primers hit the shelfs in spring... selling a brick or two will make for a good christmas..
Also $500? I wish its up to 700-2000 now lol

Ive given up trying to find MlR primers... i couldnt even entice anyone to trade 100 for a full lb of power pistol

I’ve got 13 boxes of Cci LRP and 8 boxes Cci LRMP and each box cost me 39.99$ back in 2015. Wouldn’t give them up for the world right now except to my son in law, cousin, uncle and grandson for their hunting needs.

I just received 500 primers this past week (from a dealer), Federal 215M for $80. This is much more expensive than pre-pandemic, however, I believe that this will be a reality check, what is to be in the future for pricing.

Herein lies a lesson for some, while others will never learn.

Make sure you have enough supplies for the shooting you desire. I'm not suggesting that anyone hoard a lifetime of loading components but two seasons worth will get you over the market shortages. Primer shortages is a new trend but a decade or so back it was the Great .22cal Shortage and other commercial loads.

I haven't had the need to rush out and buy anything at 5 times the price, and I just do more rimfire and clay shooting to make my other supplies last longer. Shooting is shooting.

There are stores that have primers, they just don't advertise them anymore. I saw CCI BR 4's advertised at 159.99 today at Rangeview, that actually isn't all that horrid a price, same or more in major US retailers, in US dollars. I don't need them, so, didn't bother. Found a shop in Que last wk that shows stk on a bunch of primers, reasonable price, 90-120.00 but, didn't feel like paying the frt, don't need them that bad.
