I got an unfired Grizz in a trade I did last week. I was just going to sell it but I liked the feel of the gun. Only problem is it seems to bind pretty good, especially with 3". Only the first 3" shell ejects properly while the other two pop out 1" and stop. If you do anything but gently pull back with your fingernail it takes major fiddleing to get it out.

2 3\4'' Ejects 90% of the time, but this whole situation is just unacceptable. A gun that jams is a useless piece of metal. I tried 9 different kinds of ammunition. 3 different followers (Scattergun, S&J and stock) and a couple springs meant for my HP-9 (same spring). I am at a loss and rather disappointed. Does\did anyone have the same problem? And advice is welcome.

Well I got it in a trade, does that matter? Plus the trigger group has been worked on by a smith. I can't really afford to ship this thing back either. I would be quite happy if it just worked.

I have the same problem. But im inexperienced and cant be sure if it is because of an internal flaw. Im thinking it could be ammo or dirt. I havent shot that many different kinds of shells with it to say it happens with all types of ammo.

When the Griz was shipped to me it was covered in a sticky type of oil. I wiped down all that I could but I never actually got inside the receiver. I have a strong suspicion my problem is because of this sticky crap inside. Could this be the problem with yours as well?
 
i had the same thing happen to me the other day with my rem870, tryed cleaning it, did everything, still cant figure whats wrong with it, mite just take it to a gunsmith to get it looked at
 
UPDATE

It appears the shell latch on the ejection port side is bent. Here it is next to my HP-9 which works flawlessly. HP-9 is on the left. So the question is,how do I fix this?:rolleyes:

Remove the barrel, action and trigger/hammer group. Can't remember if the if the forend assembly needs to be removed as well. The latches fit into a groove inside the receiver, are located by the trigger group pin and are staked in. They can be pried out. (I have a remington 870 where the shell latch comes right out when you disassemble the gun, but still works fine however. If the latch is bent relative to a good one it will need to be removed and straightened out- probably better to replace it with a new Remington one though ($14 at brownells) as the metal on the original may be soft which causerd it to bend in the first place.

So I can remove it, bend it back and replace it? I was worried about it not going back in properly and messing it up more. If anyone has an extra shell latch...
 
I took it out, spent over 2 full hours trying to make it work. It's been bent and twisted so much it finally gave out. I sent Canada Ammo an Email, I hope they make good on it. This is an obvious manufacturer defect.
 
have you tried contacting Western gun parts for a Remington replacement? I know the Remington parts are seem to be really good spring steel and last for years.

Don't know about the Grizzly but a couple of Nutz repalced their Norinco 870 clone internals with Remington parts and seemed happy with the results

I have a new set of latches lined up. I will be out $25 or more for sure for the latches. They need to be staked into place as well. Something I don't have the tools or know-how to do. I will wait a few days for CanAm to reply given how busy they are, I hope they come through somehow though.

there are 3 tools shown on their website the brownells one is the most expensive the other 2 are cheaper and easier to use i beleive. As i recall i used a screwdriver to stake mine in. ( I had a JB Wood book that described it -If I find it and the section i'll copy the page & get back to you

A gunsmith worked on the gun and never noticed the mangled latch?

It seems hard to believe that the gun would ship like that and then a smith could "work" on the trigger and not notice it....I guess the "smith" didn't check the gun for function after he worked on it.

It should be pretty easy to fix and it sucks that you have to pay for it but I really don't see how Canam could be responsible for it at this point as you are the second owner and the gun has been worked on by a smith who either was blind or the gun was working correctly at that point...
 
He worked on the trigger group, the latch was far away. I am not expecting CanAm to fix it but it would be the honorable thing to do right? The original owner bought two, they are both the same though mine is much worse as his cycles 2 3\4 just fine. He doesn't shoot 3" and doesn't seem concerned. I am very concerned though.
