Problems with a M&P40 - Update - FINALLY BACK!

I've tried Glocks and the M&P and I can say I personally like the M&P a whole lot more than the Glocks.

and what does your personal preference have to do with the mans problem?:p:D

My M&P has never had a single misfire, FTF or FTE in 1200 rds. Failures and problems do hapen to any gun. I here very good things about S&W customer support. Good luck.

Check your Winchester ammo. No longer allowed on our local range due to case failures in pistol and rifle ammo and countless duds.

Are you talking about the rimfire stuff they had a recall on? In my opinion with the exeption of power point, their rimfire stuff is and always has been crap. Most of their shot shells are pretty good and I haven't run into any problems with the 1000 rds. or so of white box pistol ammo I used in the last month in various guns. Not even 1 misfire. What calibers and ammo type were you having trouble with, And what do you mean when you say case failure? M.

What's excessive dry firing? I thought the M&P was intended as a LEO sidearm?

I know when I went through Depot, they recommended that we dry fire at least 100 times each night.

The early problem for 40 cal Glocks as I remember was bang, bang, kaboom. I'd take a striker problem over a kaboom any day. In fact I'd take almost anything over a kaboom.

As soon as I saw this thread I knew how it was going to progress....Within a few posts someone would say 'shoulda bought a Glock instead', followed by someone bringing up the topic of Glocks and KBs. I was thinking it would take at least 20 posts but it took only 14....CGNers are efficient today.;)

Good luck with the MP...Hopefully it will be fixed soon so you can get to the range and enjoy it.

Don't fret the problems. As with anything commercially produced expect at least some glitches. It's not a gun yet, just a kit. Go slow, pay attention, figger it out, fix it carefully, smooth it out, and you will be very happy with what it is. Could be some thing machined wrong, bent, ruff, dirty, put together wrong, too much grease,or hardened grease, something too loose or too tight, stuck maching chip that caused any or all of those problems or a combo! You could have spent 10 times more cash and still run into glitches. The best part is by the time you get it tuned to you, you will know the gun well and love it very much even if it's not the new gun you want.( and you will ) LOL.(they're like kisses, one's just not enough) LOL. Oh, And to the naysayers: Sometimes the glitch takes awhile to show up. That can be real crappy...ie design error! Ouch! LOL. We're all here to help each other, not belittle each other. I have guns worth next to nothing and guns worth lots. I love them all in thier own way. You can't compare a norc 54 to an s&w 627 but you can have a lot of fun with both. AS for dryfiring, I am very curious why (mecanically) that would make any difference. Most modern guns are not suseptible, If this one is I am very curious why.I haven't had one apart yet. Please all replys to that question greatfully accepted. Just my 2 cents. thanks. M.

P>S> Oh!!! and still no hear back from the guy dissing winchester ammo not allowed at his club. What's the deal?????? are we in danger??? Please respond asap!!!! M.

Actually I don't have an issue with Glock products (beyond the fact that they don't fit my hands). I've owned a couple, put a few thousand rounds through them, and shot many more than that - if they fitted my hand properly I could have saved many thousands of dollars. It simply illustrates that all manufactured goods go through a "real world test" phase and even very good products have quirks that aren't apparent until they are used in the real world. The "should have bought a Glock" tends to come from people with a couple of thousand rounds through one and little real experience with anything else. It just irritates me. As I have handled broken Glocks (and many other broken pistols) it's not honest to say they "never" break. If I had been in a more relaxed mood that day I suppose I could have pointed out that Glock pistols used to eat their trigger return springs at an alarming rate. Either way, if it's man made, it WILL break sooner or later. The real measure is how the manufacturer handles it.

PS. you now know which spares to buy. :D

S&W pisses me off - my M&P 9 still got failure to extract. It is doing the repair "merry go around" again.

I like shooting it - but what good if they cannot have consistent quality control??? Even Beretta works out of the box...:rolleyes:The postage is getting more expensive than the pistol soon - it will be cheaper just to give me a new one.

There is something I agree with Scarecrow - Do not buy any American products unless it is out for 2 years!! See, I got burnt because I REALLY think the Americans finally can design and build stuff that work - NOT! They can only do one at a time but not both.

Is the M&P available without the internal lock & mag. safety here in Canada?

Did S&W re-imburse all the shipping charges? I know they do it in US. Do they here?
