Is there anyway to obtain a Prohibited handgun like a Luger, without being grandfathered or having a close family member willing to pass one down? I know there are Restricted ones but they are like 3 times the price.

Doesn't these rules mean that as the Prohibited owners pass away less and less people will be able to own these guns.

For years I've listened to my Dad and Uncle talk about the many trophies my Grandfather brought back after War, among other things was a Luger he napped in Egypt. I wish they could remember what happened to it.....

You can have a prohibited Luger re barrelled to restricted. Its not cheap and it requires the work of a dedicated gunsmith.

You can lobby your representative to see that changes are made to do away with stupid prohibitions.
There's a better chance of this happening now more than there ever has been.

As Artyman mentioned, you can get a prohibited one into the restricted class by having a trusted gun smith do the work. I did this for a 1914 DWM marked Luger and I have not regretted it since.

This works if you do not have the grandfather pass down ability.

I would also go ahead with the project as soon as possible as, eventually, the prohibited P08 army models won't be around for long.

It took about two years of planning, saving, and actual commitment but my Luger project worked out and I am quite pleased. She also turned out to be cheaper than the matching prohibs and about $500 + cheaper than an arty luger.

The Swiss ones are just insanely priced IMO not to forget you have to special load for them too.

A few years back my buddy bought a prohib luger. He made the deal with the seller, ...But the gun was sold to a gun shop first....then re-barrled..then sold back to him as a Restricted. They did a beutiful job, and the bluing even matched. And yes...its alot cheaper to do it this way. Dont be afraid to make a deal on a Phohib.:)

X2 aswell as to what Nabs said. I am currently undergoing my own prohib to restricted P08 Luger project. Should be a few more months at the latest but after shooting Nab's BEAUTIFUL piece I have no doubts it will be worth it.

Paatz has it right. The Conservatives are in for the next 5 years and a chunk of i was because of OUR support and OUR votes. We have to let them know that WE understand this and that so should THEY.

If they forget, we can remind them gently what happened to Avril Phaedra Campbell and her Red Tory cronies: it was US who destroyed them, to a very great extent.

We're not asking for gifts. All we want is our God-given (and Magna Charta-approved) RIGHT to the possession of our own LAWFULLY GAINED PROPERTY.

And we have to let them know that WE know that Property cannot be CRIMINAL; only the offensive USE of Property is criminal. Property itself is neutral in the eyes of the proper Law, being a 'mere chattel'.

Check out Volume 1 of Blackstone's "Commentaries on the Institutes of England" (1765 IIRC), which just happens to be (a) the best book on the Common Law ever printed, and (b) the basis of our legal system as well as the American legal system. Read espcialy the sections on "natural rghts of man" and the "rights of Parliament". The ownership of weapons is the underpinning right which guarantees all the others, according to the Lord Chief Justice of England. He also says that if Liberty be ever destroyed in this country, "it will be a Parliament which does it". Parliament, according to Blackstone, may only ENLARGE upon the existing Common Law.... but it may NOT contravene the Common Law, nor may Parliament LIMIT the Common Law RIGHTS which the people already enjoy.

I know somebody is gonna jump me on this, but kindly do so AFTER you have read it and understand what he is saying. And remember that just because Parliament may have broken the Law..... and what they have done becomes accepted...... if even one person objects to what has transpired, that person is RIGHT and the Law is WRONG.

WHERE is the public-spirited Lawyer who is willing to take this one to the Supreme Court, pro bono publico? Does he even exist?

But Paatz has the right idea: get it changed.
.

Swapping barrels, thanks for the idea, does anyone know someone in Southern Ontario who has the skills for this kind of project?
