Prohibition on assault-style firearms

I didn’t serve for real , just a reservist at a young age . I can attest that I will be flying the flag upside down from here on out too. Next is looki g for work in another country , quite possibly another continent.
Don't blame Canada, our country is great, we just let a wrong crowd to rule it, our flag should never be upside down, it's us who should stand up for it

It's a bit late to think of this, but in hindsight more of us should probably join the Liberal party and try to influence things from the inside.

It's easy for the Liberals to make decisions like this if they believe that none of us would have voted for them anyways.

EDIT - what bothers me the most is that if city-driven politics continues to drive provincial and federal decisions then we will continue to spiral downwards as a country (and as a continent). I moved out of Toronto because the local politics were too awful to watch. Now that we have driven jobs and opportunities out of the cities (because eww industry sometimes smells bad) our kids have only a fraction of the opportunities we did, and our "leaders" wonder why gang membership and the associated illegal gun violence seem so attractive.

It's not clear to me that telling rural rifle owners they can no longer use the firearms they purchased for hunting and target shooting is going to do anything about the handgun violence that makes people in big cities fearful, but perhaps I am not sufficiently educated.

I hope everybody understands what sustenance hunting means.....it doesnt mean the hunters who live in the city and hunt during the "open seasons"...its for people who need to hunt in order to survive.....you know like people living in bum f##k remote areas where if they dont hunt and grow there own food they will die.

That is "subsistence” hunters or people who choose to live a subsistence lifestyle in remote areas. They still get food and supplies by plane in times of need, for example if their hunt is not successful and have no food.

Sustenance is simply people who hunt for food, which is every hunter who eats what they kill

What I find interesting are the numerous posts about how tyrannical this government is, and how controversial the move to ban the “assault weapons” is; but yet in this tumultuous time there remains no mention of taking up arms and marching up against the government. Although it feels like we are heading in that direction.

May cooler heads prevail.

talking of this on this forum will get you ban simple , and the black chopper will start flying over , these arent things you talk on the net but in a close room ...

I don't know if everyone signed the petition. Just in case, here it is:

Unfortunately, that's the best we could do for now - the petition... Liberals took the perfect timing for us not to spill on the streets. So please sign and donate something helping to promote it

I wonder how come they did not include tavor in the list?

Because the people behind this are ignorant in all aspects of firearms. They haven't been used in any shootings so they're not considered "dangerous to the public". VZ58s have been used in one shooting so they're dangerous. AR15s have been used in some so they're dangerous. XCR and MPX look like AR15s so they're dangerous. Tavor looks like a space nerf gun so not dangerous. SKS has wood so not dangerous.

They could have easily just said they would ban all semi auto centerfires, but they're the big dumb. But that's their next step, as they have said they will add to the list based on what gun owners do.

Next is more models. Then it's all semi auto centerfire rifles. Then semi auto centerfire shotguns are going to be added, possibly detachable mag feds first because they look like ARs. And so forth. Their end goal is the abolishment of provate firearms ownership unless you're a native.

Ok so 10000 joules is a 50bmg.
Are there a lot of criminals buying these 'sniper' rifles?
Getting their licence, paying at least $3000 for a rifle? Paying $6 a bullet? Buying a $2500 scope to see what they're shooting? Practicing every day to hit a target 1 to 2 kilometers away?
When exactly was the last crime commited in Canada with a .50 BMG rifle?

Only good news is a lot of what's listed are going to be current non restricted rifles. So how's the government going to get my non registered firearms? Oh yeah they won't. They'll have a hard time proving I'm in possession of them.

There's still like 70k (hitherto legally owned) AR-15's in Canada...

Does anyone have link to any of the legislation on this? I would like to read it and see what it actually says.
what's going to be the deal with Restricted fire arms that move to prohib? I've heard there will be a grandfathering system but how is that going to work etc?
