Project Norinco Commander !

Perhaps the whole look will blend better once you blue or park your gun.
I hope so....;)
I like the idea of Parking for a shooter/carry piece, durable and resists wear and tear much better then blueing.

But on the other hand I love the look of Blued guns.......decisions decisions:p
Oh well that's aways away yet so I got some time to think it through.
Thanks for the interest.

The older Norinco Commanders had this style of grip safety, (not my gun)

Well I've been working the grip safety down to where I'm almost happy with it. Abit more "finishing/shaping" left to do on the "spur" and I'll call it good for that. I was happy there was just enough "meat" left on the frame ears to shape them almost exactly like a factory commander....Norinco doesn't grind much off when they fit the beavertails on like some replacements require.

And the Post Lady delivered the last of my parts today...a complete Colt spring kit, with a Factory 18 lb Commander recoil spring, and a heavier firing pin spring(just because they say it's safer?) Can't hurt I guess...

So I got those in and man it makes a huge difference....The existing main spring was reduced, as was the recoil spring. I won't be shooting any "light" loads through this one so I went back to the Factory Colt spring specs........reliability is my ultimate goal with this one.
Here it is back together with new springs installed (old tired springs pictured)

So that's pretty much it...I still have to fine tune the trigger abit more, finish polishing the guts and clean up & dehorn abit more on the outside to prep for the Parkerising........that should be a learning experince !

Might hit the range first...just to see if she's gonna be a keeper or not:p
If it shoots I might just spring for a Prof blue job.........;)

Looks a little short from here.

Where've I heard that...........

Actually compared to the A1 it is abit stubbier.....but I essentially copied an original Colt Commander which I find comfy to shoot nonetheless.
Pics actually are abit deceaving...it's longer then it looks:p

Right on, glad you like it.
I was thinking more like the one I posted above ( stock Norinco commander safety) or a Govt. safety modified like this,

Wow had to dig this one back from a few pages....been busy so the updates have been lacking, but I did manage a few last touches to the Norc Commander.

I didn't like the two pins sticking out of the frame(thumb safety pin & hammer pin) they were both slightly different lengths and it bothered me so I flushed them up.....the sear pin is actually abit too short as you may notice in the pic. I'll likely get another one, the short one bothers me abit as well.

I also decided to try and countersink the slide stop pin as well.......no particular reason other then this is my "practise" peice and I seen a Custom 1911 with this done and thought it looked neat so I did it.
Worked out pretty decent actually...the pin is just inside of being flush with the frame now. Just enough of an indent to allow the pin to be pushed out for dissassembly (at least it's as much as I dare to remove anyways:p)

That'll be it for now.......gotta box er up and ship it off for the finish work. I've opted out of a home park finish...too busy right now to learn any new tricks.

Thanks for the interest and i'll post up completed pics when it returns.

wow.. im planning on getting a norc as my first 1911 this summer, i might not undertake as much as you have, but i will round out some edges and strip/paint it. very interesting watching this project take shape!
