long story short, I adopted a Russian SKS rifle that has been corroded and let go far beyond what I would consider usable (hence my project name scrap metal). The barrel is corroded and pitted, almost all parts are rusty and show signs of corrosion. I had to use a punch and hammer to remove the gas tube piston
.
That being said, I have shot this rifle in current condition (don't judge me). I was surprised to find that it is still accurate and functional.
I would like to make this clear before I get into describing my project, I am not a gunsmith. I have however done what I consider a fair share of research to achieve a clear understanding of exactly how this rifle functions along with practices used to complete basic modifications.
My plan is to do anything i can dream up to this rifle. Starting with a trigger job and modifying the gas tube for recoil reduction. I am willing to do almost anything to this rifle. Basically its going to be my guinea pig, and when I'm done I plan on scraping it.
Got any ideas? let me know ill probably do them.
Here are some pics so you can understand where I'm at.
