Promag M1A/M305 Precision Stock PICTURE Review

Here is a highlight of the are that needs to be beveled. if you look on the bottom of the receiver you will see that the oprod "flange" is angled and dips lower than the rest of the receiver. As M14Doctor says this step must be done prior to fitting the trigger pads to avoid too much material being removed.

Luckily for me I fitted the trigger group very tight so when I relieved the oprod flange are the trigger group was still reasonably tight.

exactly what i was talking about, thanx for posting the pic.
, you can file this location untill it is flat with the area ahead of it for a nice even ledge..... or bevel it out and down to the outside of the stock, creating the same angle as the forward reciever bearing pads.

Hi,
Well I took a little more off the pads and the rifle goes together very tight but i still have a hair crack under the heel of the stock. Everywhere else at the receiver is jam tight. The forend can be squeezed up and down a little seems to be "floating". The gas cylinder is centered and everything seems good except for the hair crack at rear of receiver? Is everyone's Chi com rifle sitting solid on the stock at this area??? Thanks!
oh yes checked the op rod guide it is not hitting!

did you relieve the area pictured above?

these stocks seem pretty good for the cash even though fitting is required. Shows you why you pay a little more for custom stocks that are generally a true drop in fit. the package says no gunsmithing required, the data sheet says fitting should be done by a qualified gunsmith...... In the case of the cinese rifles, fitting should be expected but IS within the realm of the do it yerselfer. I'm going to attempt to document as much as i can for you all so that sending it off to someone for install is not required.
as for the "precision stock" title, I would say precision molded yes..... but other than the adjustable cheek and butt and the general ergonomics.... the mechanical means of fastening stock to action remain the same as any standard m14 stock in wood or plastic/composite. There are no other mechanical features like troy, sage, jae , use in thier stocks to truly enhance the rifle into a precision platform. However, when you see the modifications i am currently performing to my stock..... yer all gonna want yours done too LOL

Archangel Range Report

Luckily my Archangel arrived on Wednesday and went in as easy as please so that I was able to take the M1A on a trip to the Island that I'd planned - took her to the range on Thursday.

I thought the ergonomics deserving of an A+. This stock fits me very well. The cheekriser - being adjustable with clean, precise clicks - is excellent and allows for a tight, repeatable weld. The pistol grip is comfortable though perhaps just a shade skinny for me but, really, I'm being picky here and trying to find things not to like. Recoil management was excellent but here the laws of physics are double edged - recoil management is a feature of weight and, housed in the Archangel, the M1A with Elite 4200 Tactical and Chinese knock off of a Harris tips the bathroom scales around 14 Lbs ! Great for the range but not too sure about hoofing around with.

While I shot off the bench for best accuracy results, I am not able to conclusively report that the Archangel improves accuracy as the only handloads I had with me were loaded up for my TRG ( purpose of trip was to do load development for the 20" TRG ) and they were too long and too hot for the M1A so I was limited to the American Eagle 150g FMJ that I had on hand and which the M1A isn't too keen on. In total I shot off 50 rounds of the AE and all of the groups were outside an inch with a pattern being 3 shots very close together - including some nice cloverleafs - and 2 straying off. This seems a tad better than usual with this ammo but I will have to see what the result is with handloads or FGMM to deliver a final verdict. My view as of now is that the Archangel certainly won't make your rifle a worse shooter (my sense is that it will improve accuracy a bit) but it will most definately make it "Tacti-cooler" :)

A final look:

Hi Doc,
Yes I relieved the area and like I said everything is tight and looking good except for about an inch of receiver at the heel on the end and just a hair crack but still a crack! I just can't figure why it won't go all the way down? Thanks!

Hi,
Well I went back and took a little bit more off and it's pretty much there. It passes all the safety and trigger checks it still locks up tight and I'm going to call it good and take it to the range monday. Still waiting on my set of ARMS#22 rings! I think this is a hell of a stock as I paid $200 U.S out the door! Thanks!

Whoa...you must be in the states for that pricing? I know my buddy got his for a tick over $200...but we're not so lucky (I know...he laughs at me all the time about it )..

Hi,
Yea! Some payback for you guys being able to buy those sweet Norc M305"s!!! It's OK I know my Goverment is making America safer for me!!!!

Hi,
Well I just returned from my local gun range and although I did not shoot a paper target I was very impressed with the Archangel stock! I shot steel plates at 100 yds. with my iron sights. The plates are 12" and 8" and from the bench was boringly repetitive! I had my ARMS #18 scope mount on and there was no problems with brass. I hope later this week to receive my ARMS#22 rings and mount a Zeiss 3x9x40 scope and then will give a report on that. From what I saw today I expect good things! Thanks again for all the help fitting this up!

14 in collapsed and 15 '' extended , I am 6 ft and found having it adjusted out roughly half way (12 clicks) fits me well.It will extend 24 clicks or so or a little over an inch.In the first pictures of this thread at the top of this page it is shown fully extended

I love mine, the ergonomics are what I was after to a "T". I think I am just going to use the stock handguard though rather than a Troy or UTG and stick with my Marstar scope mount. Now to find a bi pod, I am looking for that bipod where the feet sit out to the sides. The hunt for the next must have M14 part is on!!! lol
