Thought it looked like an XLR, but the design and carbon wrap threw me so I did consider that you had a pieced together design. Very cool, what's the grand total weight all together?

Did you get a weight of the barreled action to stay remotely on topic? :p

Generally speaking our bolt action barrels will weigh in between 3# & 3.5#. AR barrels will weigh in between 1.5# and 2.5# dependent upon length and journal size.

so it's more an half weigh reduction if you compare a sendero profile(what proof research call they't go to contour).
I'm not hating but it's still expensive for 50% reduction weight and unproved long term performance.
For now i want to read really long term review(Canadian review). Theyr commercial video are not convincing.
after that i will buy one. but for now i trust more good old steel.

Too early for a long term review simply because Proof has not been around all that long.

Being a skeptic of "new" stuff myself I decided to build a rifle with 1 in a new caliber as well.
So put together a 300 Norma magnum (no not the old 308 Norma mag), this is 1 of Jimmy Sloan's latest creations in whizzy calibers.
The 26" long 8 twist 30 cal Proof barrel was fitted to 1 of our Maverick actions and then bedded into a McMillan ultra light stock.
So far I am impressed in every way. The rifle complete with 5.5x22 NXS scope weighs 9lb 14 oz. Shoots just under 1/2 MOA so far with as much load development as I have had time for and looks like I can get it down more with further development.

I have not beaten concrete blocks with my barrel, and frankly do not plan to.
Some items of note that take some getting used to that according to my buddy who is 1 of the owners at Proof, these things have barrel whip like I have never seen yet seem to shoot real well. Also they get very hot to the touch on the outer surface yet the little bit of exposed steel remains noticeably cool. The carbon fiber I am told "wicks" the heat away from the steel?

Anyway the long and short of this so far is with 100 or so rounds down the pipe, I am impressed with the accuracy and how light this rifle is as well as how well balanced it is. Now how many rounds will the barrel take before it succumbs to fire cracking to the point of it effecting accuracy, too soon to know.

Also for the selling price , is the price I was given is good or it's cheaper/higher?

I don't think competetive shooting was ever the barrel's intended use, mainly because in competetive shooting, weight is not the primary concern. However, for longer range hunters or those hunting in the mountains for sheep, goats, etc, the ability to reduce weight while still having a barrel that comes close to a HB performance, is highly appreciated.

This also applies to any precision shooter, whether they be military, police, or civilan, who plan to carry their rifle for extended periods, a heavy match barrel contributes a huge amount of a rifle's overall weight, so if one can reduce it's weight while still coming close to its performance, can be a great thing.

Just because they aren't used in competetive shooting doesn't mean they aren't a gimmick.
 
I personally shoot a Christensen Arms 300 RUM I have hunted with my rifle in SUB Zero weather well below -20C. Rifle functioned perfect range report is great I'm by no means a sharp shooter. Loaded some new 230 Gr Berger Hybrid bullets last week was shooting out to 565 at clay targets with the first load developed no complaints. The Rifle Barrel Combo is very light until I added the Nightforce rail and Nightforce NXS Scope.

Yes sticking a NF on it increases the weight significantly, but what good is a good rifle with less than great optics.
I looked at Swarovski for a lighter weight optic, but could not find 1 that suited my applications. Also being so used to NF and not used to change swayed the scales into the extra 1.5 lbs for the optic.
I think I could have shaved another pound off if I went with a titanium brake rather than stainless and skeletonized our action, still under 10lbs is good enough for my needs.
 
Now that I have finally purchased a Night Force scope I will never buy anything different absolutely love this I’ve never been able to adjust the dial and confidently shoot out to 800 yards. I packed my rifle around the Blackfoot last year hunting elk put on over 100KM in 5 days the eberlestock pack sure helped share the weight though
 
Shoot a night natch with Greg H in Montana. He had a carbon wrapped barrelled Mega AR build that was very light. Thinking about a barrel from them but $900 for an AR barrel that I'm going to replace after a years use is spendy.

The guy who owned ABS, Mike Degerness, up and moved to Montana to become one of the majors in Proof Research. He took his patents with him and it is the same people making the barrels on the same equipment which for all intents and purposes makes it the same company. I know this because I have been down to their factory and seen barrels being made when I was working with them on a project.
