Proposed Carbine Training - in August

1500 rounds in three days is a "really high round count"? Based on what?

Thats why I say depending on the trainer, the LCD experience level of the students and what is being taught.

If all your doing is engaging paper from <25m dumping a ton of rounds isn't really teaching much in the way of skill. I would assume that 1200 or so of those rounds will be fired in the last two days. The downside is that students stop thinking and just start shooting especially guys who haven't taken a course before. Double taps are great and rapid fire skills are good too but only if you can do it accurately, at multiple targets, at various ranges and consistently. Misses don't count and I would rather shoot 300 educational rounds at a further range then dump 600 rounds of ballistic masturbation for which I only earn a smile.

1500 rds is fine, I'm only asking for quantification of that high a round count.

The amount of rounds required leads me to believe the course will be like the courses Magpul offers. From what Iv seen from there videos they go through a lot of rounds so 1500 sounds realistic.
I would live to do a course like that Magpul course if its ever close enough.

I emailed them about trying to setup a course in BC but they did not respond. I expect they like others are not allowed to teach outside the US.

That sucks.
Its one thing to watch the videos and another to actually be there and pull the trigger. Watching the video it seems like everything dose not sink in. :D

Another option is convincing some of our fellow CGNer's to put on a course. We do have several members here with extensive combat experience.

eh how bout if we all volunteered for the Michigan militia, ill take the rank of Colonel and can bring my own fried chicken! Does this count? :D:dancingbanana:

But then a Colonel in Kentucky will want to battle you out on the best tasting chicken....but the Royals will back you up, you mentioned chicken...

Magpul doesn't want to do carbine courses in Canada because of our 5 round magazine caps. Quote unquote, Costa laughed when our semi-auto rifle magazine limits came into topic. He thought the 10 round limit in California was bad enough, nevermind us.

But a Magpul pistol course may be on the horizon.

With the LAR-15 mags we've functionally got a 10 round limit here as well...

10 is still too few, wasting an hour and a half of a 6 hour carbine course on reloading is ####ty.

But like I said, Costa might come up later this year for a pistol course.

Well hopefully Tritium or Big Red will be doing some courses this year as I would love to get some training in with those guys. However I need some lead time to book days of from work. They are kinda sticky about that sometimes.

But I haven't heard anything being planned here in Ontario yet except for Greentips suggestion....

Exactly! We have our own pool of professionals to draw from who are just as capable. There is a demand here. Not everyone wants to be an 'operator', but there is a large group of guys who would like to establish and improve on a basic set of skills for 'competative' ;) shooting.

I'll likely run a carbine course or two this summer. I am just waiting to see what sort of time off I can get first.
