Partcipation depends on location...but it would be a low of 50...to well over 100 shooters...

Our Level 3 matches will have about 200 shooters (about 230 ish for the Provincials)

If you need approx 20 workers to host a match (obvioulsy depends on the size of the match)...and 20 show up...that's pretty easy math (everyone works).

but...

If we implimented a manditory work schedule for one of the larger level 2's...it would be a whole lotta people waking up...walking out...patching a target and going back to sleep.

In Ontario, where we have so many shooters matches bring significant profit, therfore that is why clubs host matches.
We live in times when a lot of poeple just want to get service fast and with very little effort on their part. That is why I think two tier system should work in Ontario.
Those who RO and help should be financialy rewarded if clubs want to have matches set, run and put away in timely manner... Unless all this is not about IPSC BUT $$$

Now seeing how some of these clubs are making a profit maybe some of the non-IPSC shooter (club members)from the club should come out and help :nest:

I shoot the majority of my level2's in the US,shot in one day one start time equal squad sizes, no pre reg just show up an hour before the start time. each squad has an RO that gets lined up on all the stages by the MD/RM, theres at least 1 other guy who can run the timer and whole squad sets and patches. At the end we tear down whatever stage we finish on. Works perfectly.
Never understood having to patch for another squad when I'm not shooting. Theres no reason why an 8+ person squad can't handle resetting their own stage.

I guess I am starting to get it. I have to ask Madness if I can come with him and shoot the matches he goes to.. I may have to go to NS or NB as well this summer. I hear they also serve steak.:D

IT is not the CLUBS that put up with it.

It is the WORKERS!

Now as to why I do it?

Simple........Personally I think that it is the DUTY of every shooting in IPSC to give back to the sport in the form of matches.

If we do not then where the hell are we? Simple........extinct!

No matches means NO IPSC........that much should be obvious to anyone with half a brain cell let alone a brain.

When I first got into IPSC there were ZERO matches at EESA. NONE Nadda (although we had some IPSC Shooters) in my mind that is despicable.
So I started to host matches ..........

Now of my 20 days of vacation I get per year.

8 of them go towards time off to Run matches. Note I did not say that it was to SHOOT matches that accounts for another 4 or 5 days but to WORK them.

If everyone was of the I pay so I should not have to work mind set then we would be doomed.

Lucky for us we have some core people at some clubs who are willing to put in the effort.
That said if we are #### upon enough ............that too will end and we are back to being doomed.

Some of that can be achieved within the squad if the squad size is appropriate. You can (and should) write off the shooter, the guy on deck, and the guy who just finished shooting from working in that moment. However, if the squad has 8 or more shooters, then that leaves plenty of help to score, and just a few target frames per shooter to patch.

When you have big fat ranges and can set up multiple stages, upping the squad size to a dozen or more lets you split the squads and still keep the labour force.

I am going to have to agree with this whole heartily....you either put up, or shut up! If more people were willing to put in the time and effort, some truly fantastic matches could be had in Ontario, and they damn well should be happening! We are the ones with the man power, but sadly, there are more people sitting on the sidelines sniping, instead of making a contribution! I guess that is easier for most people!
