After moving to Canada full-time I have spent the last 4 months researching best options for a custom build for comps, fun and some hunting without braking the bank. I sold all my guns prior to moving and can't afford to replace everything I had as each had a specific use case.

So I have come up with this build which I think will be the solution. Any other suggestions I am all ears and appreciate any feedback.

6mm Creedmoor
Mack Bros Evo Stainless Action
Krieger 1/7.5 MTU 26"
Bix'n Andy Tac Sport Pro
MDT XRS Chassis with enclosed fore end with front and rear weights
- this chassis and weighting system gives me the ability to change use cases easily
10/12 round AICS Mag
Heathen Brake 4 Port G2
MDT CKYE-pod GEN2 single pull short/PRS - bipod
MDT one piece scope mount
Toric UHD 4-25X50 34 mm MRAD ELR FFP scope

When shooting down south I configured two builds the same way but in different calibers and am considering doing the same now. 6mm Creedmoor and 22LR mostly for practice and to keep expenses down. Anyone else do this or have thoughts? To me it helps to stay in sync, feel and accuracy etc.

Will be shooting at the Rocky Rod Range this year which has distances up to 600 Meters. Can't wait to get out

That looks like the exact same gun I have from insite arms, it will shoot tiny little bug holes with anything from 105 gr to 112 gr bullets, have not been able to get light bullet to shoot as well as I would like so I just stick with what works, mine wears a Bushnell XRS tactical 4.5 - 30 x 50mm FFP , 600 yards will be a chip shot with it I have had mine out to 1110 yards with ease, all in mine weights 19.2 lbs so strictly bench gun but so sweet to shoot, enjoy :D

Good minds think alike. The base gun, will be from Insite arms with all the jewelry direct from MDT Canada. I see your group is tight and is why I am choosing this build. 1110 yards, sweet!! Berger!! Try Hornady match? Any reloading to push further out? Curious to see if the 6mm can push to 1400 with this set up.

His load data is on the target you reference..

Insite builds hammers, they've done a bunch of 6 Creeds for me and they all shoot bugholes. The XRS is a great chassis, nice and stiff and the enclosed forend will let ya swap out weights as needed. Only suggestion I have is to get a double-pull Ckye-pod instead of the short single-pull. The double-pull goes as low as you could want but gets a bit more height when needed.

Welcome to the sport!
I know that one of Canada's best precision rifle shooters is in Rocky Mtn House.
Alberta is hosting numerous PRS-style events in rimfire and centerfire format this year - more than ever!
Albert is also hosting one NRL Hunter event this year, plus another is just across the BC border.

I keep hearing good things about Insite Arms. I had the opportunity to talk to them just before Christmas but they haven't followed up yet on couple of my other requests. Tis the season.

Great point on the bipod, I have made the adjustment in my cart and will move forward with your recommendation. Thx

Here is a link to some testing I did with Lapua brass with SRP pockets and hornady brass with LRP pockets some interesting results

http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=432246&highlight=small+rifle+primers+large

Thanks for the link, and saved the thread for future reference. Starting from scratch again so reloading is a ways down the road so its
factory ammo for a while.

Literally just pulled the trigger on the 6mm base gun as described above on the Insite Arms website, got the last one available.

Guys, any thoughts on a second build with similar chassis but in 22LR for practice? Trying to keep costs down on ammo and would be fun to do some RimFire Comps.

Thx adamg for the good news!! I have been searching for events to attend just to meet people and learn as much as I can.

I have signed up for the regional 2025 PRS Regional Series in Regina and Medicine Hat. I am waiting for a response from the Canadian Rimfire Precision Series membership but it states you have to be sponsored by a member to join. Will see what they say.

Build looks solid. Haven't much experience with Tract optics though, have you explored their warranty service in Canada?

I have talked to one of the Jons on the phone ( one of the owners ) and they have a distribution centre down east and I have been told the warranty is really good based on all the 5 star reviews. They are a direct to consumer dealer using Japanese Glass that's comparable to some of the other more expensive options out there. I do like the idea of removing the middle man and is also the reason I like MDT.

Most cost effective option would be to get a Bergara B14R barrelled action and drop it in another XRS. Nice thing with the Bergara is it's the "budget" option for a .22 in a Rem 700 footprint so you can always play musical chassis if/when you try other chassis. Also the same mag pouches will work for your CF and RF mags.

I am a bit gun shy on the Bergara's. I have not personally owned one but have seen and heard about issues with the lite springs not extracting the casings. I even saw a guy shooting a new premier pro comp and he had to check to see if the casing was extracted four times in a row.

I do realize this can be minimized by replacing the springs. Maybe just an isolated incident that left a bad taste in my mouth. I do like what you have suggested though, its sounds like way more positives to one negative.

Appreciating all your feedback.

I think when it comes to rimfire, they're all kinda finnicky and often times it comes down to your own individual sample. I know lotsa guys that have struggled with Vudoos and RimXs and have seen the online reports about issues with Bergaras but my personal B14R (sample size of one) hasn't had any issues with extraction or ejection.

Do you know if they do the warranty work directly from the distribution center? Vortex and Leupold are really popular choices here because your warranty work or replacement is done in-county. Or is it a straight up replacement for defective units? Mostly curious myself, there are a lot of "new" scope brands popping up all over where the manufacture is in Japan/Philippines/China/Korea but they make impressive warranty claims. No idea where Tract stacks up.

Here's their warranty statement in their terms and conditions. I have talked with one person who had an issue after a year and they just gave them a new scope. I have only heard good things so far, its why I am going to give them a try.

I agree every Rimfire has its quirks. I do like what you proposed and will look into getting a Bergara B14R barrelled action and drop into another XRS chassis. Good advice!

I'm a Rocky dweller myself. The range is great with the steel they have out to 600.

I'm a really big fan of the XRS. Tried so many different stocks and chassis. this one just fits right (to me anyways).
I'm looking to build a 22lr in the XRS myself this year for the exact reason - continuity.

Is there a link anywhere to all of the events in Alberta?

I’ve shot in medicine hat and genesee. The Taber shoots seem like they’re one day if I remember correctly and too far for me to go for a one day shoot. I’d like to get a couple more 2 or 3 day events in this year.
