I couldn't decide between all the bag and size options out there. Luckily my wife just bought a sewing machine so I put her to work to make all kinds of bags with different sizes and fills. With the amount these bags cost, and if you can't meet up with a buddy who has the ones you're interested in...making your own will give you a great idea of what you need (and more importantly what you don't).

The dimensions are all listed on-line and making a couple bags will pay for itself very quickly (sewing machine included).

I put my mom to work last night and had her make me bag ImageUploadedByCanadianGunNutz1461463062.553015.jpg

Gonna make a few more and some two round holders as well

Have her install a way to top up the stuffing without having to cut stiched. The styrofoam beads get crushed and the bag gets flat after some use.

I will have a Velcro opening but I used poly fill to stuff it. Gonna make a few different sizes and put a little bit wider strap on it. Found some better strap stuff today and a couple different colors of cordura nylon.

What kinda machine do you need to sew nylon webbing and condura? My moms just got a basic old (80's) sewing machine.

For stuff to last, you would need a heavy duty/commercial sewing machine and commercial heavy duty thread.

A regular machine will probably break needles sewing through webbing and multiple layers of cordura/webbing.

A bar-tack machine is really handy for high stress areas such as Molle webbing.......

I bought a singer heavy duty 4411 for like $130 shipped from Amazon.ca

its does well on doubled over webbing and 4 layers cordura (about max for the foot height)... starts to getting angry when i go over 4 layers of webbing.... I broke my first (and only needle DOH!) last night when i spazzed the petal going onto a webbing loop...
whatever though... like $2 for a new pack.
