PSA re: bolt failures in recent import M-14 pattern rifles

no the complaint to the Gun cops about some 858 receivers.

this isn't about receivers being not what they are supposed to be. This is about poorly cast bolts coming apart in peoples new rifles. Those cast bolts should not be leaving the factory they were made in. If they go back to a forged bolt the problem goes away.

i was going to order a NORINCO M14 SOCOM 18.6″ SEMI RIFLE 308WIN from Tenda. I send them a email to ask who is the supplier for their m14. they say that it coming from the supplier ?? -- do we know who they are ?

Before i do the order.. do i have to know something.. like ordering a other bolt from Wolverine ?

thanks

Personally, I wouldn't buy it unless I could inspect it first hand and remove the bolt and see if its cast. You should be able to find a good used shorty on the Equipment Exchange that you buy from someone who can verify the bolt is forged.

Agreed. Unless you can confirm that it doesn't have a MIM bolt, look elsewhere. You might or might not be able to find a good bolt that fits or that could be fitted.

well, i found a norinco imported by CJA (Southfield, Michigan). Do we know in which years it was imported by CJA?

The only thing I do not have is the year of production and the seller sent me a photo of the bolt and there is no circle, so very high possibility that it is a forged bolt. The only thing is that it's a 22 "gun.

A Chinese gun imported by an American company would have to be prior to the US import ban. Or am I mistaken on that? So that would make it a long time ago. My google search suggest CJA ended imports in 1994. It would most certainly be a forged bolt unless someone swapped it.

All the pre-2007 M305 guns were marked like that. Should be fine.

Marstar and Lever imported these guns from the late 1990's to 2007 - they were leftovers that could no longer be sent to the USA. Good guns compared to the crap today.

All the Socom versions I have seen(approx 20)from the latest batch(N.S an Mars--r) all have had the MIM bolt /
get them to send you a clear pic of the bottom of the bolt thru the Mag well , look for the circles

Mine is a CJA Michigan marked rifle. Think I got it in the '90s. Obtained a TRW bolt from a friend, which literally dropped right in with excellent headspace.

I had one of the Norc's with that marking, picked it up from Marstar in 2012 or 2013. Back of receiver was out of spec and wouldn't accept USGI sights. Shot amazingly accurate for what it was though

a whole pile of these rifles were marked at manufacture prior to importing by US companies. Then Clinton happened and the norinco rifles were banned for import into the USA.
All those marked receivers remained and were then , later, imported by marstar, dark international and others.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, just because a receiver has CJA stampings , does not mean it ever landed on US soil.
