I have had my PTRD for about 2 1/2 years now, and STILL have not fired it.
I did turn a single case out of steel on a lathe a while back, with a 50BMG (CCI 35) primer pocket. I cracked off one primer just to make sure all was good, then sent the case to CGN member MissingSomething so he could do some load developing.

I also made another case at the same time that is an adapter that holds a cut down 28 gauge shell. I plan on making up some blanks for it.

hehehe... got load data....

Loading for the 14.5 is a pain and will be expensive. A RCBS ammo master press did not take the reloading well. Went to a Corbin. Dies are also expensive.

But.. if you want to shoot.... its great fun :D

Berdan cases can be reprimed.

The imported Berdan primers are going to be at least twice more expensive than #35.

Sizing would be far more critical for a "S" than for a "D". For the latter, neck sizing would probably suffice.
Would it be practical to import new, primed steel cases, and the correct primers for them?
Here is another consideration as far as shooting these rifles is concerned - they were not designed, intended, or sighted for long range accuracy.

The steel fired cases don't chamber, full sizing is required.

...14.5mm Soviet?...still looking....

...for some factory fresh Ball ammo...I want to build a single-shot (1,000 yd.) target rifle.......are you hearing this John?......

I am visiting a factory next week that has said they will make ball bullets and may even make the cases. The ammo is an issue due to importation.

We had a conversation on that before, I recall.
(I've been bugging Chris for ammo ever since I got mine:))
If live ammo cannot be imported, then bring in components, and let the boys load their own!

I always seem to have friends asking when I'm getting more ammo so they can try the ptrd. Bullets and cases sized for 50 cal primers would be perfect, even just the cases would be great. Who in Canada stocks suitable powders?

Well...do to a (very common) momentary lack of reason I had to vote

Its hurts to think how much of this ammo I have seen (and blown up)

Had a chance to fire a KPV quad mount once (just one gun going though)...What a frickn racket...ears still ringing

Like a few of the other posters here I had no idea what this thing was.
But after googling it it is definitely on the list of things to have before I die! Lol

Looks like tons of fun!

Yes it is. Thats why there is so much of it around. It is the ball or AP that is nearly impossible to find

MDZ HEI Projectile filled with HEI charge, internal air compression fuze. Pointed boattail projectile

MDZ HEI (variant) Slightly modified version of the above MDZ, with shorter air compression tube in tip

AP or Ball is not on any stock list, or in any warehouse I have found. It may have ben produced in the early days, but is long gone, even in the dark caves I frequent.
