Is it the upper or the lower that is the firearm in the eyes of the law?
 
Any rifle/carbine restricted Only due to barrel length can be rebarreled to 18.5"+ and have its status changed. The downside is cost, but the upsides are many.

This would not apply to anything restricted by name, pistols etc.

At present I have a small inventory of 5.7x28 ammo sitting in the safe... I've had it for some time now (bout 600-700 rnds or so)... but I plan on just loading up a whack of my own ammo... I've got a few sources for brass, and loading looks to be pretty fast and easy...

I'll bring it out to the range next week for a little open sight plinking before I get the optic installed and the new barrel... I'm curious to see what it throws across the chronograph...

I haven't seen a bunch of ammo around here - we can import personally 5000 rounds from the US, but will also require export permits which may make the rounds cost prohibitive... sad, as I live close to the US border, and it would be an easy drive to pick some up... Hopefully once 195 and 197 are approved for commercial import for civilian market, it'll be a little more gettable...
 
I'm new to this gun thing. So i'm a bit confused regarding the bull-pup design.

Isn't a bull-pup designed stock prohibited? The law seem to indicate it is the device that is prohibited. From the way it reads, does it mean a device that somehow fits onto an existing firearm that wasn't designed as a bull-pup from the beginning? Because you own a PS90, that can't be prohibited.

Like say, an AR-15 after market device the turns your AR-15 into a bull-pup design. That device would be prohibited right?

Usually new people to the gun thing aren't known to be aware of tinny details in the laws, especially regarding bullpump designs :rolleyes:

But to answer the ever occuring question, bullpump stocks are prohibited, bullpump firearms are not (unless prohibited by name)

To stay with topic, nice PS90, I would love to get one if it was not for the scarce ammunition..I would feel so SG1.

It's "bullpup", not pump.
 
Broke out the tape measure...

I had a little time this weekend to take a couple crude measurements of the PS90... My intention is to have a longer (18.6") barrel installed on the carbine...

As it stands, the gun's overall length allows it to fit the NR category...

Interestingly enough, the barrel length to the end of the flash hider is 18.5"...too bad flash hiders don't count anymore...:(

Ultimately, I'd like to do away with the longer flash hider, and perhaps just leave a threaded end with protector on... Keeping the same profile as the existing barrel...

I remember shooting the P90's with SS190 and SS194, on an indoor range, and the muzzle flash was barely noticeable. I suspect with the extra 8" of barrel length, there may not be much to light up once the bullet leave the rifling...

Another interesting thing I've been advised of is that the barrel support / barrel / and sight group are considered the "firearm part", not the receiver/ frame / trigger / hammer & bolt... again the CFC never ceases to surprise me...:confused::confused:

Time to email some photos to the barrel maker!!:D

The difference between the NR barrel and the stock barrel (16") is only 1/2" or 3/4" with a vortex flash hider on the 18.6" barrel. I would say it's worth it to have it re-classified as NR.

The indoor range you played at sold/allowed the use of SS190?

The serial number is marked on the barrel and not the receiver? LOL! I gotta take a look now!

The range I was using was rated for .308, so we pretty much fired everything in there... With respect to the ammunition, I had done a fair amount of testing with several carbine platforms - FN provided me with whatever ammunition was needed to conduct our tests. In hindsight, I should have held on to the extra instead of giving the unused portion back... ;) ah well, morality is judged by what you do when no one is watching...

One of the ideas I have kicking around for the new barrel is to have the outer sleeve milled at the end to replicate the factory flash hider on the restricted length barrel...but the milling won't be deeper than .125" - completely cosmetic... ergo, for all intents and purposes, it'll look like regular restricted PS90, but meet the criteria for deeming it's status Non-Restricted.

Fingers crossed it doesn't cost me the rest of the family fortune...:)

Well I just got off the phone with the CFC and CFO regarding an ATT to get my barreled upper out to the gunsmith to have the Pinocchio effect done to it, and was advised that if I'm sending the frame/receiver with action and trigger group that I needed an ATT - But if I'm just sending the barrel and sight assembly I don't need one... I explained that the serial number is on the sight frame, and they seemed fine with it...

I'll call again tomorrow and see if the answer changes...

On another note, called CFC/CFO again today and was advised that I didn't need an ATT to send the Barrel/sight assembly in to be lengthened... Hmmmmmm.... I sense entrapment.... ;)
