pulled wieght of popular 180gr bullets

has anyone had a chance to weigh different 180 gr bullets and obtain an average deviation in weights ...ie: difference in weight.

Curious as to what a factory 180gr winchester, federal, could weigh,...etc... to see what the tolerances are...

I just weighed 500 Berger 180 Target VLD's :
(Percentages are approximate)
179.9 gr - 15%
180.0 gr - 60%
180.1 gr - 20%
180.2 gr - 5%

And don't forget that most reloading scales have a limit of accuracy of +/- 0.1 grain, so that whether a bullet is actually 180.0 or 180.1 grains must be measured with a scale that is accurate to 0.01 grains!

I set my scales with a bullet in the range of the amount of powder I am looking to weigh. Short of having a scale with sample calibration weights I do not think I could accuratly weigh a bullet, but for weighing powder, having a bullets of 40, 50, 60 and 75 grain weights make it easier to be consistant with loads for rifle cartridges. For Pistol loads, even though I do not load for pistols, I would be happy to see my scale accurate at 0 and 40 grains.

I was looking for info to compare the lastest from Canadian BDX in the 180gr bullet.
Here is a quote from the email I was forwarded from Kurt at Canadian BDX;

about 8 pce and came back and they all were 179.9 to 180.1 grain, so we're holding tolerances on this bullet to 180 grains +- .1 grain, 1/10 of a grain. That's Bench Rest Match Quality! that's no simple accomplishment on a 180 grain part!

"...average deviation in weights..." Doesn't matter much for a hunting bullet. Match bullets are made to closer tolerances, of course.

Here are a few pics of a little check I did a few months back. The first four are all 30 cal. Each sample was taken from the same box just as they were purchased. You can see the manufacturers that mix production lines. The accubond and tsx have separate "nodes" that the bullets weigh, showing separate production lines mixed in the same box. The berger VLD are run off a single line per box to tighten tolerances. I don't think that match bullets are built to any better tolerances, only that the manufacturer does not mix production lots.
