After receiving a clean bill of heath from my eye doctor today,I just bought a Wilson Combat Classic Stainless.I wanted an accurate, well made 1911,and since my nearest gunsmith is 300 miles away,it had to be very reliable as well. Now I will have both a .45 cal 1911,and a .22 version as well.Due to recent retinal issues,I decided to sell all of my rifles that produced significant recoil, and from now on I will spend my range time with my handguns, and with a heavy 700-5R that I just purchased. The Wilson certainly wasn't cheap, but since I have sold almost all of my rifles, with only one more to go,I am still money ahead by a considerable margin.

stubblejumper, congratulations, I hope you enjoy both of your new toys but I wonder what they look like:)

I attempted to find .45 ammunition in Fort Mcmurray today with no success.Luckily a local outdoor equipment store has just begin bringing in ammunition and has some American Eagle Total Metal Jacket due in next week.I don't know how good this ammunition is,but I have four boxes reserved to try out the gun

The gun was only purchased yesterday ,over the phone,so I should have it early in the week.At that time,I will post pictures.I haven't even seen the gun with my own eyes yet, only pictures of it.

As to the pain in my wallet, due to retina problems,I have sold off all of my shotguns and magnum rifles except one,and that one is in the EE right now.I have sold off several triggers, stocks, barrels etc,and thousands of bullets, brass etc. as well.As a result ,my gun storage and loading room are almost empty, but my bank account did grow accordingly.I see buying the Wilson Combat as balancing things out a little.:)

As to buying factory loads,I am only buying them to use until I get to the city and get set up with a Dillon loading system.I normally spent at least 30 days per year at the range in the past, and I intend to get back into shooting at least that often.Just one more reason for buying a quality gun,I need it to be reliable for a lot of shooting.
To be honest, other than shotshells or rimfires,I haven't fired a factory load in several years.

The gun will be well maintained.P&D supposedly has a good selection of parts for Wilson Combat. At least according to them they do,and they have a great reputation for providing good customer service.

Well after 100 rounds fired,I am pleased with the gun. This was my first day shooting a handgun in about 20 years, and at 10 yards offhand,I was consistently keeping all of my shots in 4".I rested my hand on the table, and shot two sub 1" groups.Out of 100 rounds fire, there was not a single feed failure.I also fired my Kimber Rimfire Super for the first time today, and I had perhaps 10 failures to feed out of 200 rounds. However,I do blame most of the feed failures on using sub standard ammunition, because all that I could find was either low grade or target velocity ammunition.Accuracy was about the same offhand as with the Wilson, but resting my hand produced no better than 1-1/2" groups with the Kimber.
