Purchasing 9mm - what do you shoot and why?

My first 9mm was a CZ Shadow SP01....an excellent firearm. My second 9mm was a Steyr M9A1.......amazingly easy to shoot, very accurate, very user friendly, reasonably priced and well made. The Steyr is a personal favourite of mine and I customized it with parts from BT Rod Guides. Customizing the CZ was a bit more pricey and more options are available but also just as much fun. Customizing the firearm forces you to become intimately familiar with the mechanics of the firearm which I think is a good thing. Enjoy your first purchase and good luck!!

I guess I will add my two cents.
I own a CZ 75 with a hogue grip and love it. It's my oldest gun but I bring it out on a regular basis. It is a joy to shoot and eats anything you feed it and doesn't complain. I also have a Glock 17 and a Steyr M9A1 for polymer guns. I have a harder time shooting with the Glock and I find the Steyr more accurate.
I have to agree with all that are posting. Try lots and buy what you like.

That is the best idea, This question is asked about once a week. I think a 22 quality gun is a good start, than a 9 mm , and than a 45 1911, or a 1911 in 9mm.
I hate glock, but that is just me , I shoot most guns, a lot of revolvers, and Glocks just don't do it for me.
Cheap ( light) is not always the best, as most are hard to shoot good, and poor triggers.
Play with some that your friends, or a rental range has , and see what you like .
I have lots of 22, but these days shoot more 9mm and 38 special, and to a lesser amount , 45 because of cost.
Good luck with your hunt.
BTW, In the old days, I bought a lot of guns, and tools because they where cheap.
after I got older, I don't buy cheap tools or guns, thought most of my good guns are used, and will last forever, if looked after.
Thanks argyle, will need to look into rental ranges here in Manitoba. Hope to hit the range with a couple friends that are avid shooters to see what they have and start my journey. Much appreciated!

I'm looking to buy my first handgun, and picked Ruger SR9 or SIG p226. They both sits well in my hand, and I feel convertible with them. Asking you guys, which one would be better pick?

These are two completely different platforms. If you want better quality, then pick the SIG. Other than that, there is nothing in common between the two to make a decision on.
